First of all you want to find the correct niche related keywords for your online campaign that have low competition and a healthy monthly search rate. Find forums that have a decent PR and allow anchor text in the profile area, use the various bookmarking websites to get your site/blog indexed quicker and ping your website, write articles about your niche with the correct title and use your keywords as backlinks and submit your work to either Ezine or Go articles. All of these methods are free ways to gain SEO for your website/blog and that includes the Google keyword tool.

I think it doesn't matter about what is your link building strategy, but the most important is consistently. As SEO consultant you must be know well about SEO stuff.

The following are considered the best white-hat methods to build links.

1. Link baiting.
2. Guest blogging.
3. Content syndication.
4. Write great content on your site "and you will get linked naturally by other webmasters".

All the above are highly effective methods but difficult to master initially when you're starting out. However, you can always get service providers who have skills in these areas to help you.

There are obviously other methods too.

I think there is still no update when it comes to link building strategy. But as long as you are not doing something that will lead search engines to penalize you, you're in a right track.
