Lets say we have a forum that has a high PR but has no relation to the website we want to promote.

So the forum could be about movies while our site might be promoting sports products. Now if i have the homepage address to my site in the signature and i post regulary will this count as a backlink? Or will it not because its not relevant?

It will count a backlink. If your content relation to forum content, this is good. Your content no relation to forum, it still count a backlink with high PR domain. I test it with my SEO service hundreds of time and this show the good result. You are also do not need to post anything, just make your profile index and this will count backlink.

Well, this is good if the forum has not just the high pr but also it is very much popular and have faith from google. You will definitely get link and traffic from huge traffic forum. But for low pr and high pr with medium traffic you can get link but traffic will be less.

Its cool that i can post on forums that have no relevance to my site and get backlinks from it.

Thats interesting that just the link to my site inside my profile also counts as a backlink.

It certainly will count as a back-links. If the forum is do-follow that link is going to have a much more weight. When it comes down to the issue of relevancy Google recommends it, but links that are not "relevant" also count.

Yeah, I agree with others, it is still good. But make sure to prioritize relevant backlinks.
