Reverse Engineering Competitors with Compete.com

I did a research on my direct competitors using Compete.com (1 Year/April 2011), and this is what I found:

Competitor A:
Unique Visitors: 40,000
Top Search Terms: 249
Referring Sites: 61
Destination Sites: 81

Competitor B:
Unique Visitors: 28,000
Top Search Terms: 168
Referring Sites: 44
Destination Sites: 58

Myself:
Unique Visitors: 1,400
Top Search Terms: 8
Referring Sites: 9
Destination Sites: 7

Seeing all of these numbers is good news for my company. Seeing the potential of the market and how much better my competitors are doing proves that the market I am in right now has a huge potential to grow even futher, perhaps 25x its size.

Competitor A and B are basically in the exact same industry I am in, selling the exact same products, nothing more, nothing less. So its just an thing about "marketing" that would bring me at par with them.

I know compete.com is not much accurate, but this could be a basis to work out from, numbers that should be proportion to each other.

Based on the numbers above, what marketing factors should I work on to be at par with my competitors marketing? Any marketing techniques in particular? I want to make the most out of the reverse engineering to see the potential of the business and find out what can be done.

Thanks in advance!

it is really hard to say how you require to compete with looking at the above numbers.
The way to see how to complete is to understand the backlinks to the persons site, the anchor text on the backlinks and the quality of the backlinks. once you have an idea of this information it would be worth while to understand what opportunities you have o gain quick wins on leveraging different traffic strategies such as video, press releases, facebook and importantly which of all the traffic sources converts.

If you have the same product I would look at being different by providing my clients greater value. So can I bundle a product with something else to give more value.

To test which keywords you want to focus on run a ppc campaign and see what converts. I have foudn this to be the quickets way to understand what traffic works for me.

    hope this help
    Cheers
