Hey there warriors,

I've been in affiliate marketing for a little while now and until now have not thought about trying to rank in Google because frankly getting a site to page one seemed like kind of a daunting task to me. I'm hoping there are some SEO experts here that can demystify a few things for me.

Firstly, I've read in a couple of places that building too many links too fast is a bad thing, is this true? If so, what is a good amount?

And when I get on page one, do I need to keep link building? Do my rankings suffer if there isn't a consistent amount of links built?

Which is better, a few high PR links or hundreds of lower PR links?

Any insight is much appreciated

Thanks warriors!

Building too many links is more of an issue if you are using automated software. If you are just building manually you shouldn't have an issue.

A few high PR links definitely trumps 100s of lower PR links. They are very difficult to come by these days though. Install SEO Quake and it will show you the PR of each page. Try to find relevant blogs to comment on that are Dofollow.

Popular articles/blog posts on popular sites/blogs can get thousands of backlinks in a very short period of time (as little as a few hours), and they are not penalized.

As far as continuing to build backlinks once you reach page one, that really depends on how competitive your niche is. In less competitive niches you might be able to get away without building more, but in more competitive niches, you'll have to keep building links if you want to stay on page one.

Like Joe said, a few high PR links trumps hundreds of low pr links.

      Hope that helps.

It can be bad if you build lets say 5k links today and then 0 links the next day. You want to start off low and slowly increase over time. Remember it is a marathon not a sprint when it comes to backlinks. The amount will depend on your niche "there is no magic number" it can be different for every niche. I would start off building about 3-5 Quality Blog Posts per day for a period of 10-15 days. Take a week break and repeat. Also randomly build links from Article Directories, Web Directories, Social Media, and blog comments.

And when I get on page one, do I need to keep link building? Do my rankings suffer if there isn't a consistent amount of links built?
This will depend heavily on what your competition is doing. If it is a though niche then you might have to keep building links periodically to keep rankings.

Which is better, a few high PR links or hundreds of lower PR links?
You need both. You need high quality links and low quality links. Look at any established websites backlinks and you will find a mix of high quality and low quality.

First of all, link building, as long as you're not spamming is fine at any rate. Look up Matt Cutts on Youtube, he answers this. You don't need to worry about consistency unless you want to continue to climb the rankings.

And when you're on top, you'd better believe you need to keep working at it, otherwise somebody else will knock you down.

I would prefer few links with high PR and it is much better than many links with low PR. You can also use some SEO tools to check your links and I do recommend the SearchStatus!

Fast link building is not a issue. Dofollow and Nofollow is a issue.
you will focus manually & high PR sites.
