Internal links helping a sites SEO

I am looking at the backlinks of a site I have been asked to replace. It has 280 external back links and 152 internal backlinks. So I presume when I replace the site with my own built one, those 152 internal links will go, and be replaced by my own site. Would you expect this ( I mean the internal links) to have an effect on page rank. I spose my question is, does internal links help SEO ?

It depends really, when you replace the site with your own will all those links point to actual pages or throw up 404 errors?

If all the internal and external links point to no existant pages it can have an effect on how your website is viewed. Internal linking is always considered excellent on page SEO and I agree with this.

I did something similar to one of my websites and it threw 404's all over which way but loose. It's taken about a month to get them sorted using 301 redirects but I know it probably had anegative effect on my sites rankings before then, especially with external links pointing back.

I read some guidelines claim that the internal links (structural building) will allow google crawl to index your site. Any other opinions?

Internal links are important for SEO, but you should consider the links to contact pages or pages of privacy policy as "nofollow".

These pages are important to users but not from the standpoint of SEO.

Internal links (sometimes/most times) are more powerful than external. Yes - they go a long way w/ SEO.

I also heard about the importance of the internal links. But if you replace the whole site you will loose the internal links of the present site. what you can do is to create your own internal links once your own site is in place.

Yes, internal links are important part of the link graph just as any other backlink. They have beneficial effects in the use of anchortext on your page relevancy scores as well as allowing PageRank to flow through your website.

You should definitely go for interlinks for ur website.

Absolutely! Having internal links within your site or blog post is one of the key factors to help your site rank well in the Google SERPS. However, if you have external links make sure you set them to rel="nofollow".
