Google +1: I guess this is Google's answer to the Facebook "like" button. Google is such a copycat ... lol. But thought I'd experiment with it and see if it gets any traffic or attention.

You can add the code or there's a free plugin I found to add Google +1 to posts and pages. You can get it here.

WordPress Google +1 Button Plugin

Can't you just see all the upcoming Fiverr gigs ... Hey, I'll Google +1 you 25 times for $5.

Here's the info about it.

Thanks Suzanne, I've just uploaded that to one of my sites to test it too.

Do you know how this is going to affect serps though?

I mean, it's right open for abuse. I could just mail my list for the site I've put the +1 plugin on and ask them to plus one it for me, that's before all the Fiverr gigs start, if they haven't already.

I think we should have a competition to find the first signature here offering it.

Google +1 Enters SERPs, SMBs Look to Social Media | Optify

Following soon after other major updates to Google's Social Search, the search engine has just announced their latest innovation in search and social: Google +1. Much like Facebook's Like button, the +1 button is a way for users to recommend search results and ads from directly within search engine results pages (SERPs), and Google claims that they plan to roll the feature out more broadly across the Web in future weeks. Users can only use the new feature, however, when they're logged into their Google Account. In the event that none of your friends have recommended a link, Google may show you an aggregate view of how many overall Web users have +1′d a link.

      Main Takeaways:

Last week Google announced a new feature addition to their Social Search: Google +1.
Google+1 functions similarly to other social recommendation buttons, like Facebook Likes, except users can cast their "vote" using +1 directly from the SERPs, both for search results and ads.
Yeah Richard. You show me yours and I'll show you mine. lol.
Here comes the Google +1 fiasco.

You always have to lower the tone don't you.

        Thanks for the link.

I heard this was being rolled out over your way first, can you see these plus ones in the serps already? Just wondering because I can't see any here.

I can't here, but I imagine you will once it's been out for a few weeks.

I just saw the video Carson. So where do you get the button to redirect to a sales page or whatever? I also noticed the plus one button on your sauna belt doesn't redirect either.

I'm surprised you didn't put that in the video because that is the difference between the plugin Suzanne links to above and your one.

Yeah this is bound to be gamed if they use it at all as a ranking signal. I personally don't get it at all, and I really dislike this "social" thing it seems the whole world is pushing on you. I want straight, non-customized, non-social search results please. Who's to say that a page lots of people like will be useful to me?

Oh, it will be gamed. Just like people are frantic to get Facebook "likes" and Twitter followers.

I agree. Speaking not as a marketer, but a browser, I could care less what other people like and don't really want my search engine results to show what people liked. I want the results to be relevant to what I am looking for.

But Google is Google and instead of innovating, they are constantly playing a copycat game. Facebook has Likes, Google has +1, Groupon is king of coupons and Facebook has Facebook Deals, Google is launching some coupon thing. Bing integrates Facebook in its serps, Google desperately trying to launch some social thing. It's primarily a Facebook/Google war, but Google is always behind in the game because they aren't doing anything new ... just copying.

Hey ... I see it in the serps now. Just did a search for chocolate candy and there it is. Puzzling ... you can click it in the serps. How do you know if you like it if you haven't opened the site yet?

Even more of an opportunity for it to be gamed, the Fiverr gigs won't even have to visit the site now.

This will be fun to watch, still nothing here that I can find but I did read it was going to be rolled out over there first.

Yeah, I know. I just gamed it. Searched for my own sites that have the plugin and clicked on all the little plus ones. lol. Now all I need is a gang of monkeys to do the same. I'm off to Fiverr.

      THIS ^^.

Even my 3 years old can make same question, BUT Google doesn't understand it.

I'm waiting for the Hate or Dislike button.

5,454 of your friends Dislike this. The website has been
        removed due to poor ratings.

Similar to the thumbs up/down button on yahoo news stories comments.

I've said similar things before. Three guys locked in a hotel room over
weekend with an ice chest full of beer could have come up with something
        better than that +1 button.

I'm holding off on this until I see some more reviews about whether people are seeing a benefit from it.

To use it, you have to use a public Google profile, which is something I've shied away from, as that pretty much gives them access to all of your personal and professional connections (bad enough that they have all my info in Google Analytics). And since it's too obvious how the system could be scammed, I doubt it'll have much effect on rankings (maybe over time, but I doubt we'll see much benefit from the 1,000 "+1's" on Fiverr gigs...).

I have a public profile that is completely blank except for my name. No information in it at all... deliberately.

You are right Google is just trying to add more features and getting more socialized than well established network Facebook. However I think Google must have to come up with some unique ideas if they want to beat Facebook in social networking area.

However dont forget to share the result of getting Google +1 in terms of getting traffic.

There is no way this feature lasts. (At least, in its current form.) Google is going to have to protect this somehow. The Fiverr gigs are already up. Didn't take long.

There will also be +1 next to Adwords ads. If you activate "The Experiment" in Google Labs, you can see them.

They aren't showing up for regular users yet.

Due to some quirks in the way that +1 works, it looks like a lot of advertisers are unprepared. I think there will be a lot of quick cash to be made in the next couple of weeks/months advising companies on how to optomize their Adwords campaigns for +1.
