Author resource boxes are good, but a backlink within the text body is better. GoArticles allows backlinks w/i the body. Does anyone have a list or know of other article directories that allow backlinks w/i the text body?

Wherever you link is placed as long as it is in the same page with your content, I don't think that matters.

  I believe it does matter because the people that steal your articles by leaving out your resource box usually forget to change the links in the article body. I've seen a few sites that have stolen my articles but forgot to remove the links throughout the article.
  
  So you can say I had the last laugh.
  
  The more links you can add to your article the better especially when you've got highly specific anchor texts.

  I think you are correct (though only Google knows this for sure).
  
  But maybe AlphaWarrior is looking for:
  
  - extra SEO precautions
  
  OR
  
  - better clickability (more chances that people will click your lovely link at the beginning of the article, because some may drop reading it till the bottom, but this is also has a lot to do with the quality of the article)

so far the top sites are not accepting article links in the body! just put it on the resource box rather than the body

Have you tried go articles. I use it mainly for getting my sites indexed but I hear they allow direct linking in the body of the text.

I think 'location' of link definitely matters. I would actually prefer to have the resource box that the top of article.
