I have just found out that the bbc website has a link to my blog. Whilst this is great, it is a no follow. I just wondered if this will have any effect on my PR. Any thoughts?

No follow don't pass link juice so it won't help to increase your PR.

Even though with that said, many people have reported an increase in rankings from a burst of backlinks from all no follow sites.

So make of that what you will.

Back link through the BBC website is great. Through this you can divers numbers of visitors on your website. BBC gives you nofallow link but through this you can divert huge traffic on your website. It will also help full to improve your website PR.

Coming from such a high authority site, I'd be amazed if Google didn't show you some love.

Thanks for your comments guys. I know that in theory that a no follow link does not pass on link juice, but I have heard that this is not always the case. Anyway, it is nice to have some traffic from the link.

Still a link back from the BBC how bad. Even if it is nofollow.

Try participating in the forums too. Registering to a forum, putting a signature doesn't count as a good link. Participating makes a good link back!

Google normally does not follow links if there is nofollow attribute. But you can get dofollow backlinks at BBC as I think there are some people getting dofollow backlinks from bbc but these are reactively moderated so try to put some value so that no one can flag your comment.

Out of interest, how much traffic are you generating directly?

Even if you don't get any value directly from the BBC, other website owners will now see you as an authority and link to you.

I have see a recent spike in traffic, but this has been mainly due to my revamping the site and doing something with it.( I changed it over to wordpress last weekend). It is an aged site with a news type style, and it seems the articles I have written have been picked up since the revamp. I have three inbound links from the bbc. I actually want more content and am happy to put up unique articles and give backlinks.
The site is dispenseinfo.com if you want to take look.

There are many newspapers online where you can put comments to news stories coming in on both sides of the Atlantic, I use a few in the UK.

I didn't comment on the bbc site, but they must have picked up an article via an rss feed and linked back to my site.

I have a backlink from CNN to my website but I don't see a jump in Google. I do see a lot of visitors from this link though.

I've been trying to work out how to get BBC backlinks today, linking to commercial websites is a no-no according to the bbc code of conduct, I have a sinking feeling the only legit way to get bbc backlinks is if a BBC employee regards your site as newsworthy

Years ago I bought an expired domain that had a backlink from the BBC news section, the site at the time had a Page Rank 5 probably because of this link mainly. I didn't see any direct traffic benefits after the news story was published but there were a number of reasons for this.

I let the domain expire as it was for a political candidate in an African country who then went on to be jailed for fraud at a later date and I didn't want to get involved in that !

A link in content from the BBC is a great link regardless of nofollow, you can also get backlinks if you have a quality website related to the story if you are placing a comment.

Thats the conclusion I've come to Kevin, if you've got an authorative blog& site then the beeb may link to you.

I think you know the answer to this - no PR increase, but it will help with your rankings and traffic.

thats great news! sure, dofollow would be nice but you still got the BBC crediting you as a source!

google knows all, even the sites that backlink to you with the no follow attribution . just check webmaster tools for confirmation.

I also think that some of the blogs on the BBC are moderated by different people and depending on how strict they are you can get a link source published much the same way as Yahoo answers. If your post is too promotional other guys will report it and your link will get stripped.

The key using this method is to be one of the first posters when a blog post is published and you need a related website of course.
