There are many unauthentic calculations which says the number of respective PR links to get a particular PR. Almost all of them are absurdness. Usually PR is given to sites which has IBLs from other high PR sites. The number of OBLs from the site and the attributes also matters while giving the rank.

so build links in high PR pages

    Regards.

How long is a piece of string?

Not all backlinks are created equal so there really is no answer to your question. A couple of real high PR links might do it or you may need thousands of lower quality links.

When building PR you want to get links from the highest PR pages you can, no such thing as too many high PR links.

There are many calculations are there. But all depends on the obl on those pages. So better get many backlinks from PR pages and hope for the best.

There is a simple formula for calculating this.

Take the PR that you want and multiply it by 17,363, divide by the number of people you have slept with in your lifetime, add to it how many first cousins you have, minus the number of pets you have owned over the last 32 years, divide by the number of links you created yesterday, multiply by 3, subtract the amount of money you made from AdSense last month, divide by the age in days of the oldest beer in your refrigerator, add 1,711, multiply by 9 and that = the number of backlinks you need.

      Easy.

        Easy.

@OP nobody can give you any exact number of backlinks for PR4. One of my blog gained PR4 in March 2010 PR update and the most important, it has no backlinks at that time, literally 0 backlinks. Similar in that PR update one of my web 2.0 gained PR5 with 0 backlinks.

There is no authentic backlinks suggestion. There is no PR update by Google since January and even it was an old update of June 2010 which Google publicized in January 2011.

Yes you can rely on MozPagerank, which is regularly updated and to some extent it is near to Google Pagerank.

        Thanks

        Hi MikeFriedman,

LOL, I can't believe how accurate your formula was for me, it came to exactly 1.46 backlinks. I have tested a single PR7 backlink that immediately catapulted a new page to PR4. So I can personally vouch that my anecdotal evidence supports the accuracy of your formula.

        Easy.
I thought it important to note that this method does not work for virgins.

Additionally you should go by some beer, if you don't have any already (this may even also help take care of that aforementioned virginity issue).

There are still virgins out there? I thought they were mythical beasts like unicorns and minotaurs?

There's too many different factors that go into this. The most important being the quality of the sites linking to you. So it's impossible to know for sure.

Nobody really knows, but I don't think you should think in terms of quantity. I have a site (that is crap, quite frankly) that has at LEAST 6,000 organic links listed in YE, but they are all mostly from 0-PR pages (syndicated press releases and whatnot) and that site is PR0 still - NO relationships between quantity of links and PR there!

On the other hand, my 'offline' company site has almost zero content on the home page and very few backlinks, but has a couple of PR4 and PR5 backlinks to it - references from our customers - and so my site homepage is PR4. Quality not quantity. Get a few high PR backlinks and that will beat many thousands of low-quality backlinks any day.

HOWEVER, I don't see why this obsession with PR anyway... This company site of mine may be PR4 (I think that's the highest PR any site of mine has had) but it is nowhere NEAR ranking for some of the main keywords that I need it to (what can I say, I have been busy with online stuff ), so a fat lot of good that high PR does me..!!

Now the thing I am interested in is whether that high PR can be leveraged to rank more easily for the terms I want - something like that. There must be SOME benefit to PR, but I have not really seen it so far...

  • it is very silly question my dear friend.no one ocan tell you exact number . if you have quality backlinks then you can have very less number of backlinkings. if your backlinkings are of lower quality then you you need more and more backlinkings.

    thanks

You can do it with none or 0 if you want. There are also methods that require thousands. A lot of people fake PR all the time.

There are no specific numbers of backlinks needed to get PR4. None of us know how many backlinks are required to get PR4. Just continue to build links. That's it.
