How Quickly Does Google React

I have a site that has remained in position #50 for a chosen keyword. The page had about 400 words of content, the h1 tags, description, title etc were optimized for my keyword. Because I have been stuck at the bottom of page 5, I rewrote the content to 850 words, and the keyword density is 3.5 and I have a lot of related LSI keywords in the 1% to 2.5% range.

Two days ago I uploaded the new content. I thought the new content was vastly superior to what I had. Today my site is in position #85.

It looks like google last visited my site 05/30. Is this fluctuation due to my new content or should I just wait a few days? I've been in position #50 consistently for more than a month. What exactly is going on?

    How new is the site?

What is your daily backlinking strategy?

The site's just over 3 months old. I started at #18 for my keyword and it slowly drifted and stabilized at or around #50 for more than a month. So I wanted to work on content to see if I could move it. I did--but in the wrong direction. I add a new page every few days and use a free bookmarking service to bookmark every new page. I also upload a few articles a week (I don't use ezinearticles--don't like them).

      Try this:

Write two small snippets 200 words each related to your content, your main keyword. Create one link in each of them, with 2 different anchor texts: one anchor text, a different anchor text, and place these links somewhere ate the end of snippets.

Now grab these 2 snippets and put them on Pipelpipe or PingFm.

Try it and see what happens.
This is beyond me, but I think I understand. I'll do this today.

What I don't understand is, if statcounter and botsvisit says my last visit from google was 5/30/11 how can they react to something I did 2 days ago? Is it possible?

Depends on where you advertise. I know Google reacts withing a couple of days to new articles if advertised right.

First of all check Google cache date of your website and see whether you new article has been indexed or not. If its not indexed yet then you need that article to be cached by Google. Bookmarking your page can be helpful.

If you have any free blog based on blogger or wordpress then submit a random post there and put your article link inside it and your link will cached by google (my new pages cached within 2-3 hours by this method)

Secondly adding article link in Footer of your site will be helpful for you.

Thirdly build some quality backlinks to your site and it will move up. May be your this page has limited number of backlinks and you may need increase that number.

    Thanks

You must never stop backlinking to your site no matter how good an article is.

Well, after getting sick of seeing my rank slip away from position #50 to #85, I put the original content back yesterday, and I again sit on position #51 for that keyword! So google responded that quickly to the content change and it didn't like what I was SURE was much better content in every way!

So I see that, in this case, the only factor is the content. I guess my only option is to keep working on content for the front page, upload it and wait a day or two and see if I can move in the right direction.

I still can't believe my worthless 400 word quickly written article gives me better ranking than the well thought out and well written 850 word article.
