Just a quick question.

I assume that if for example I was targeting the key phrase "DIY store" to drive traffic to an American or worldwide website, then diystore.com would be the best.
However if I am targeting the same phrase, but say I am competing on British search engines (google.co.uk) then diystore.co.uk would be the best, correct?

This may seem like an obvious question, but I'm not sure. At the moment I have a .com site targeting local Irish traffic and I'm basing my ranking / competition on google.ie. So I'm thinking a.ie site would be better...

I am not an expert but from all my reading .com seems to be superior to all other country versions.

If you are targeting a particular country, then the country level domain plus hosting your site in that particular country gives you an advantage.

.co.uk is best if you want UK traffic. Really easy to get 1st page rankings with exact match domains for the uk.

You also have to take into account a customer's 'loyalty' to the domain. I know in Australia that people are very particular about buying from a .com.au rather than a .com. It makes them know they are buying from someone who has a presence here.

Ty, very helpful inputs. I'm definitely gonna switch to a .ie address.

I may as well also ask...if I have an address re-directing to my main site, will the re-directing address have much of an effect? say for example I was targeting "region builders supplier"..and my site was regionbuilderssupplier.ie would it be any use to also have say bestbuilderssupplier.ie re-directing to my main site? would google even pick this up?
