Some of my posts have a huge amount of internal link density, the reason being, they are just like 'Pages' which redirect the user to other parts of the site.

I figure this might be a bad idea for SEO.... but how much internal link density is considered too much?

The rule is not to exceed the amount of 100 links per page... which is really a lot, and it's better to stick to a more reasonable number.

Every time you put a link to another page of your website ask yourself a question: Will it improve my users' experience? This must be the main concern, and the SEO effect will follow.

All in all, internal links are created to:
    1) help visitors and search engines navigate your website - similar to sitemaps
    2) index new pages
    3) add relevance to web pages through anchor texts

To make internal backlinks work for your SEO:
    1) include keywords into the anchors
    2) add title attribute to your internal link (<a href="www.example.com" title="More about keyword">keyword</a>)
    3) use keyword optimized breadcrumbs
