Google Keyword Tool Question

A keyword phrase that I looked up "best for pets" shows that it gets 49,500 searches per month. I have it set for "broad" match types. For "exact" it shows 170 searches.

My question is how many people each month are typing into Google : best for pets

I would think it would be well over 170, but 49,500 sounds like a lot.

Thanks for any help. I can't wait until I know enough to start offering my opinion around here.

Broad just means those words are included somehow, so they could have typed:

best item to buy for exterminating pests

and it would count as broad. You should be looking as exact, 170 doesn't seem low, that seems like a fairly obscure keyword to type into Google.

Also you might want to look into a tool like Market Samurai or Traffic Travis or something.

If it's broad it means those words are in the phrase, but it's not only exact or even in that order.

    e.g.

What's the best climate for house pets?

You should always base your research on exact searches as that will be the worst case number as you may not rank for variations of that search but judge your competition strength on broad as that's who you have to beat.

Alright, thanks. That is what I thought, although I was hoping differently. That would explain 60 views per day instead of 3000.

    Thanks again: Chris

You should determine the number of search referrals you are getting daily, you want to have reporting that shows you the keywords people searched for to find your website.

If your keyword exact match is 170 it is still very unlikely you are getting 60 search referrals unless you have an incredible website in number one position.

The number of views can be 60 but that doesn't mean they are humans that arrived from search engines, the hits that are actually worthwhile.

    Good Luck with your venture.

It doesn't seem that unreasonable if he is ranking for a couple random long-tail keywords.

I am getting about 60 visits a day to my entire website of 30-40 original pages targeting different long tailed key phrases. I have been working at it for few months now and am starting to see some search ranking improvements. I think a few of the visitors, or maybe most are coming from article directories.

I have Google Analytics as reporting software. Is there better out there that anybody can suggest? It is a WordPress site. I will check to see if Google has that type of information.

Thanks again for the help: Chris
