How Many Keywords And How Much Traffic Is Enough To Earn $100 A Day With Adsense?

Hi Warriors,

Here is my simple question...How much traffic do you need to make some money with adsense?

As a general rule of thumb...Can we make a ball park figure on this?

Assuming we have everything else in order and we are now increasing our traffic...what is a good number to aim at?

Lets assume we are targeting $5-00 per day per website...and 20 websites. (we are working on minimum amounts here...)

Let's also assume we target keywords that have at least 2000 EXACT searches per month and a CPC of at least $1-00..okay so that probably works out at about 25 cents on average you get per click..you agree?

Now lets also assume we are getting just 1% CTR ...so that's just 1 in 100 which is 10 in a 1000 so that is $2.50 per 1000 visitors, right?

So we need 2000 visitors a day to make $5-00 a day right?

Okay, let's now assume we are getting 1000 visitors a month (min.) from each of our keywords (and that's also assuming we have got those keywords up on the first page of google) right? So that equates to about 33 visitors a day..now lets round that up a bit to account for other forms of traffic...let's make that figure 50 per day....right?

So that's quite a bit short of 2000 isn't it? That means we need 40 of those keywords..which means we need 40 pages targeting a different keyword per website...

Or else we can have better keywords to increase the revenue percentage and lower the amount of websites needed, BUT as a general rule of thumb whatever we do or however we do it, we need to aim at about between 50,000 to 60,000 visitors per month per keyword to make $5-00 a day.

To make $100-00 per day from one website we would need over a million visitors a day.

The only way I can see to lower that figure would be to have much higher CPC and I think it would be easier to get more traffic and just stick with the CPC being lower, as long as it's not too low.

DO YOU AGREE WITH THIS? or do you think I am making it seem harder than it really is?

Your thoughts are golden...Please comment

Thanks

Hey, it's amazing but we use the same maths. It looks like you've reached the conclusion that at an RPM of $2.50 (which I got to making the same assumptions as you) you'd need 40,000 page views a day to make $100.

This is also what I got, but I was planning on making 40 websites @ 1,000 hits/day. I don't think you're making it sound harder than it is, I think it's just not that easy full stop.

$100/day with one website would be 40,000 page views. But think about it: you're making so much money off one website you can go on holiday and still earn a standard full time wage (for New Zealand at least).

Yeah you're right, don't know where I got a million from? perhaps thats a month?

but anyway 40,000 a day is what we need one way or another

The numbers are actually not very accurate. In some niches, you can get CTR of 5 - 20% ...

In fact, if you pick the correct niche, about 3000 visitors per day is all you need to get $100 per day.

Doesn't it also depend on the types of people you have visiting your sites -- you may have high bounce rates based on what your site offers

There are too many variables. I get about 300 visitors a day or less and I make anywhere from $30 (on a really bad day) to $70. My best day ever was $130. I average $1 clicks.

Wow! that must mean you are getting a massive CTR

About 14%. I only have a couple sites that make me any money but I'm trying to rank a half dozen without a lot of luck. There are others making FAR more than I do every month, I think because they're targeting easier long tail keywords, but the payout is probably a lot less per click, so they do dozens of smaller sites.

I've been thinking about going that route for awhile and see if I can bring in some more money at least until I can rank my sites that have more competition (the payout per click is greater)

That is awesome. Is that from one or multiple websites?

Certainly are many variables. One of my sites was getting around 30k to 40k visits a day and generally, it was around the $100 mark but also saw some peaks at $400/day if a news item became popular for the day (depending what the news item was about).

I analyse on a page level with analytics and adsense and can see huge variations in CTR, CPC etc... it's quite interesting to find some hidden gems in your stats when you realise a page that doesn't rank well makes quite good money. You can then build links to that page, tidy it up, make it more in depth and earnings for that page go up even more.

One thing Ive noticed is that running numbers to speculate income potential always seems to lead to disappointment :-) It just never ends up matching up - there are too many variables.

It's also good to keep in mind the 80/20 rule - that 20% of your sites will produce 80% of the revenue.

The trick is to weed out the good performers from the duds & focus your on-going efforts on the sites that do best. You can always sell the others & use the revenue to fund the growth of your better sites.

It's true about the type of site you have. I read on a warrior thread how sites targeting products could be better CTR cos the visitors are already primed to click compared to sites on general info. Something to consider when developing the sites.

Agreed with your idea..bring traffic that will take action.
