Doing Forum Profiling. Do I Create RSS Feeds Of Those Links And Ping Them?

For some reason I have not been able to grasp the concept of RSS feeds and getting your links indexed and how social bookmarking, rss feeds, pinging links work with one another.
As I take it, you create a bunch of links on lets say forum profiles and then take those links and bookmark them. After you have bookmarked them you create RSS feeds (links2rss.com) of those bookmark pages and then you ping those RSS feeds (pingfarm).
What am I missing. I know I am missing something and all I need is someone to explain the missing link or why I am confused. I have been doing SEO for over a year and I am ashamed to say I have yet to figure this out.
