Panda 2.2 Is Gonna Kick Your Butt

Our friend Mr. Google (Ms?) is on the roll again.

The next Panda update was released on June 16. This one is known as Panda 2.2

The major target?

Sites that steal content.

Some of the auto blog programs scrape content - some elegantly.

Some not so elegantly.

I recently saw an auto blog that would fit into this category.

Every post was introduced with the same words...

"Here are something very interesting you will like"

Indeed.

And the article concluded in a similar fashion.

If that was their idea of original content, Panda 2.2 should banish them.

So if you have an auto blog, pay attention to its ranking over the next few MONTHS.

A lot of people think Google has a single button they push and automatically their new standard applies across the entire internet.

It's not that way at all.

But the Big G is going after scraped content big time.

So if you don't see anything today, please don't post in triumph that I'm full of kaka.

It's likely going to take some time to roll out.

But keep your eye on your sites and take action as needed.

    I wonder how google will be able to differentiate between "auto blogs" and genuine websites such as news and article directory's. There are many reasons to duplicate content that are not auto blogging.

      Original Panda update did a good job on taking down the value of article directories.

        Current Panda update is supposed to fix the problem that a lot of good websites (including certain article directories) lost value when they shouldn't have.

        Of course, those of us who don't give a crap about our Google rankings still don't care...

    I saw that one coming. Google has always been trying to improve user experience. So, it was only a matter of time they aim at autoblogs that doesn't contribute anything new to their search engines...

    It's wrong to say that syndicated content doesn't add value to the Search Engines.

    There are a lot of ways to aggregate content and make it very valuable to a reader.

        It's not actually terribly relevant to anyone, really. All articles in all article directories are published on PR-0 pages anyway. (How could it be otherwise? A new page on your site or on my site has no page rank when it's created: why would a new page in an article directory?).

        Some people think of "high-PR article directories" but all they really mean is the PR of the directory's home page, and that isn't where their article's published anyway.

        The "Panda update", as so many article marketers have been saying here for so many months now, in so many threads, did us a big favour: with all those article directory copies of articles knocked down the SERP's, it's become a lot easier for us to rank the original copies of our articles on our own sites. Who wants to send their traffic to an article directory, where they lose most of it, instead of to their own site? :confused:

    How about a positive thread ?

    I'm losing interest in all the reasons why I should care about what other businesses are doing instead of getting on with mine.

    All this Google and Youtube scare-mongering is getting boring now.

    Unless you get caught in filter that was not supposed to target you most of this stuff is just common-sense and been on the cards for years.

    It's been said many times here before that relying on gaming Google is a game that won't last so these changes are nothing more than that reality coming home.

    If you're trying to game their system then you can expect to get slammed. If you're not then it's just bad luck if they hit you and the best answer is still to get busy doing stuff that does work rather than constantly looking over your shoulder wondering if Google is going to get you.

      One of the most common complaints about Zombie Blogging was that Google would want to phone-verify you after you put up four or five blogs. You'd start your next blog, and Google would say "okay, we need to phone verify you to make sure you're not a bot."

      So people would shut down their computer and run hide under the covers. (Google can't get you when you're under the covers.) A couple days later, they'd go to check their blogs... and they would all be gone! WTF! All that work for nothing!

      Because - surprise! - if you don't show Google you're not a bot, they assume you are and delete everything you did. Which, when you think about it, is pretty much exactly what they ought to do.

    Are you telling me that it now cross-references which content was indexed first? That would take a hell of a lot of resources PLUS it's not even a fullproof way to judge whose is the original.

    If you think Google can't tell which site posted first, you shouldn't be posting here.

    Google is the judge & jury.

    They aren't going to judge a site on the basis of a single post.

    Google can tell the difference between an original site and a copy as well as an original site vs. syndication.

    They're pretty smart there in Mountain View...

    This panda crap is a total joke!

    People stir others up for attention (example this thread). Don't get me wrong, I understand the whole sig. link thing, lol.

    Apparently OP has never visited Google News? Do a stock symbol search & look at the 100% crap in the upper right sidebar. Nothing more than Google approved junk.

    I'm not sure If I should yell "Run Forest, run!" or "The sky is falling"?

    Waiting for the silly panda 2.3, lol.

    I have mixed feelings about the tweaking that Google is doing. For a while there searchers were getting really good, relevant results - not an EZA in sight - primo. Now all we seem to get is the latest 'discussion' or Yahoo/Ask answers page.... not cool

    If Google are after scraped content (and so they should) how are they going to differentiate scraped vs duplicate vs syndicated content?

    Google's got a database, or should I say databases full of information. They probably know when snippets first came online, who did it and can cross reference that with new sites showing the same stuff.

    I think they've got way too much information for any single company to have.

    I could care less about auto blogs being knocked out as that's just good for my real sites and their rankings.

      Thanks for posting this. I'm excited that something is finally being done to clean up the Internet and to stop the theft of quality content from people who can't seem to come up with quality content on their own.

      Bravo, Google. Keep 'em comin' until you get it exactly right. And if my site happens to drop in the SERPs as they work out the bugs, so be it. I'm glad to sacrifice my site in exchange for an Internet that actually provides information instead of one that's trying to sell me something every five minutes.

      Well put. If you're providing quality, you shouldn't worry about big bad G. It's the ones who steal from others, because they can't create the content themselves or they're too lazy, that make the Internet the cesspool it has become today. Thankfully, Google is stepping in to make the murky waters clear again.

      Imagine an Internet that actually helps you instead of one that's always trying to get something from you.

    It's funny I was listening in on a webinar this evening and the guy who was talking mentioned that more weight is going to be on anchor text links and links in general that in the middle of the content and not in the resource box.

    He also mentioned that profile links and links in the replies to blogs were given less weight if not no weight.

    I am curious to know how the folks who sell backlink packages and teach article marketing are going to react.

    Also, since EZA and other directories don't allow links in the middle of the articles I wonder how they are going to react.

    This is going to be interesting for sure.
