Link Pyramid/Link Wheels and their anchor text

I wanted to try to get some of these started for my sites but I am a little lost.

For Link Pyramids should the anchor text pointing to my site be different for 2 layers? Lets say I want 200 profile links pointing to my money site but then 3000 profile links pointing to those what should the text be? I want to rank for "learn how to play guitar" so should layer 1 be "how to play guitar" and layer 2 the full keyword...or the other way around?

For Link Wheels should both links be the same? Like "learn how to play guitar" and also "learn how to play guitar" pointing to my money site and another web 2.0 site?

And is having an open link wheel better or closed the way to go? I keep finding different opinions on the matter. Thanks.

    I have my doubts over link wheels its interesting but do these really work and how much time do these take.
