Wordpress Site overhaul

I launched a site using Wordpress 7 days ago, however I'm having an issue. I added a second post today. now my homepage has two posts and I just want one post (my first post). So I was thinking about reinstalling WP, and doing an overhaul. I have a lot of content devloped for this site, and I was thinking about updating the site with fresh content every 7-10 days. My site was indexed quickly, and I was on the second page for my main keyword. Should I just keep it as is or should I reinstall wordpress.

I tried making some php adjustments (I'm a novice programmer at best) but nothing that I've tried works.

Thanks for your suggestions!

You only want to display your first post? Make the second post a draft instead of publishing it. This will certainly not require you to reinstall WP. You can do this on your Posts Management section on the Dashboard.

I published the second post, but I don't want the second post on the homepage. I just want the first post on the home page. I've played with the dashboard but nothing works. I didn't create a seperate page for the first post, but that's what probably should have done. But again I think I may have tovrestart from scratch. I just don't know if BigG is going to like that in the long run.

If you redo things, it will take one to three days for your new material to show up on Google and propagate to all the servers -- after you ping Google. Your redo may not rank as high as your original page, either. If it were me, I would delete the second post, and save the content on my computer, then create a new page for the second post and reupload the material from the second post to the new page. This way you do not imperil your Google rank for the original homepage.

I had a blog post that ranked about #12 on Google for a long time. I decided to redo it as a separate page so I could add a lot of photos and material. It took more than a week for it to get indexed, and it danced between #14 and #22 for a long time before it settled at #14, so beware and be careful.

Chasnsx, did your site have a lot of backlinks? Since my site is only a week old, I thought if I did the overhaul it wouldn't a huge deal SEO wise. I'm not too concerned with the short term ranking but I don't want to jeopardize the potential ranking as I have quite a bit invested in content. I think I have a money maker here.

OP, why not set your Index page as a Wordpress Page, instead of WP-Post?

Sounds like you want a static page, is that correct?

      Hi Yukon,

Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with WP. My first post I didn't add to a page. I just deleted the "Hello World" post then I just added my first post. I assumed my second post wouldn't show under my first post after playing with the dashboard. Everything I've attempted hasn't worked. I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

Same as the above post really. Make your first post the static page. You can do that in settings. Then make another page for posts.

Just adjust your WP settings to display 1 post. Make your 1st post a "sticky" post.

    2 clicks simple.

Yeah...reinstalling won't solve your problem - adjust to only show 1 post on home page in admin.

I've tried that. It doesn't work for some reason. I'm not using the original theme.

If you don't want to post it again, install P2P plugin. It can make it easier for you to convert pages to post and vice versa. After converting your first post as a page, you can go to Reading under settings and set that page as static.

    Hi Yukon,

I don't have enough posts to PM.

I appreciate your willingness to help out! Believe it or not I ended up reinstalling the theme. I originally uploaded the theme from a .zip file, but some of these files didn't upload properly. I deleted it and uploaded a theme from WP dashboard and I've had no issues since.

    Thanks again!
