Hello Warriors,

I have manged to get several of my web sites on the first page of Goggle for my keywords however the home page is not the page that comes up. The 2nd or third page is the one that appears.

How do I get my home page to be the one that comes up?

Thanks,

Richard

Build links directly to your homepage. Use the site name in your anchor text when you build links to it.

If your site name has keyword(s) in there - it should be easier to rank especially if it is an EMD.

inner linking will tell the search engines which pages in your site are important, and for what keyword.

Where your keyword exists within your site, link it to your home page where possible (definitely on the page that's currently ranking first for the phrase) and ensure that there are more links within your site to your home page than whatever page is currently ranking first.

I have a similar problem, but is my sitemap which is ranking higher than the homepage. Weird.

I've never had that problem. That is strange. I agree about linking more to your homepage. Ultimately, it's going to list the most "relevant" page, so be sure your homepage is the most relevant for that particular phrase--if it's a traffic-producing phrase.

My sitemap is just made with a WP plug-in, don't know if it's in a folder or not.

Like the others have said, if you have a good internal link structure, and build backlinks to your home page, then it should begin to rank.

      Keywords on the home page
Links from the pages which are ranking well
build more backlinks with keyword in the anchor text

      cheers

This happens a lot to me... I feel that it's just more or less Google trying to figure out where your page is supposed to be indexed. Eventually, it WILL place the correct page there...but as others have said, building links with the CORRECT anchor text will ultimately tell google where to file your page in the SERPS. So, if your page is about "Blue Bubble Gum", you'll want the anchor text to say "Blue Bubble Gum" as well.

For me it was all about the inner linking of the website. I had to remove some of my inner linkings and then the main page was once again the page ranking for the keyword.

Make it more relevant to the keyword that you're targeting, and then build high quality, dofollow backlinks using that keyword as anchor text.
