Hi warriors,

There is a specific keyword I would like to rank for and I've been working on it for a month. The 4th guy on Google results has only 30 backlinks and one comes from a PR5 domain according to SEO Spyglass and majesticseo. My website, on the other hand, has around 1500 backlinks which includes edu and gov links, and mixture of different PRs(0-5). Unfortunately, I rank on the second page for this keyword and stuck there for awhile now. The keyword is repeated in my main page too. The funny thing is that this guy's main page does not even have content but only a bunch of internal links. It does not make any sense to me. The only thing I could think of is that his 30 links come from sites that are fully in Turkish language but mine comes from a mix of both English and Turkish ones.

Any ideas on what I might be doing wrong here?

Thanks!

It's not only the amount of links that you have or the PR that you have that gets you ranked. There are a LOT of factors that go into ranking a domain. For example, do you have an exact match domain, how many other pages are optimized for that keyword....how many other sites have the same anchor text as you.... There are a lot of factors. How RELEVANT are your links? Are the pages linking to you optimized for the same keyword as you are? How old is your domain? Are you linking OUT to relevant/trusted pages? What's your site linking structure like? These are all things to consider...

      Exact domain matches don't matter

His backlinks are probably aged and his domain more trusted. Is your domain trusted? You will know when you write a new post and it gets indexed within a minute...

      Age is a big factor

How many different domains link to you? How trusted are those domains?

      30 pr5 backlinks > 10,000 pr0 backlinks

I have 57 different domains linking to me and my competitor has 7 only according to Majesticseo.com. SEOSpyglass's estimation is also very close to these numbers.

I agree with you but after checking my competitor's backlinks and his website I don't think this is the case. My website runs on Joomla and I have my content more organized and optimized then his. The only thing that worries me is that his one backlink comes from DMOZ but that's about it. I also submitted my site to DMOZ but as you know it takes forever to get listed on there. I really wonder whether this is only related to domain country or not.

      Any comments?

Your main keyword is missing from your title, put it at least once. Also your keyword is not anchored with your text links often on these backlinked sites.

You must have more text links of your main keyword on these backlinks else they are useless backlinks for that keyword. These 2 factors are very important for Search engines. Only 20% of your backlinks have the anchored text keyword, you need to raise that ratio to 90%

That's the think to look for.You cannot judge a website's popularity and rankings just by counting the number of backlinks. There are many more factors which should be looked into.In your case the competitors 30 backlinks holds much more value than your 1500 backlinks.Remember "Quality is more important than quantity"

Quality of the backlinks does matter not the quantity of the backlinks. So try to colect quality backlinks from high pr & niche websites
