I'm Really New To This, Help Me with an Authority Site...

I wish to build an authority site, but i'm facing a lot of trouble.

So far i've only built exact domain name matches for my sites. How can I do it such that my site is able to rank highly for sub-niches that do not contain any of the general niche's words?

For example...

General Niche:
Dog Training

Sub-niche:
Dog Technique

If I target "dog training", it'll be something like dogtraining.com.

Here's the problem. If I use dogtraining.com , how do I rank highly in Google for "Dog Technique" if I'm not using dogtechnique.com ? Will dogtraining.com/dogtechnique be able to work as well?

I've seen authority sites do these before, without having an exact domain name, but I've never tried it. I'm sure some of you warriors have done so... Any advice to offer a newbie like me?

Just create a sub-domain that IS keyword related for the sub niches.

Your SEO strategy will have little or nothing to do with whether your site becomes an "authority". That's going to largely depend on your visitors.

If enough of them find your content interesting, informative or entertaining enough to link to and tell others about, you might start to attain some authority status.

By all means, optimize your keywords - but if you want to create an authority site, concentrate on your content.

      Thanks for the reply.

Okay, maybe authority site is a bit too advanced for me yet... How about being able to rank easily for sub-niches? Is that possible?
