is there a affordable way to find keywords for a site? other than keyword spy or compete which are not reachable to normal marketers. Is it possible to know the keywords for which a site ranks and keep monitoring it for a reasonable price. Any one sharing their experience would be greatly appreciated.

How about using Google Product Search, Google Suggest, or know what people are talking about by examining forums...

Meet with your friends and make a brainstorm, you may spend a lot of time but you'll get a lot of diiferent keywords, quantity is limited only with your imagination.

To find keywords for a site one has to make a deep research over niche of his website to get search engine benefits.

Google has a lot of free tools for keyword research - AdWords for one, and you can go as deep as you want. Also consider the suggestions that come up when you start to type in your keyword in the search tool. For example, you may start typing "Dog Training" and the google search will finish your thought with some things that people are search for.

There are many options....but that's a good place to start. Traffic Travis is good as well if you go beyond Google (still keeping it free).

    hope that helps....Dawn

I love playing around with the ranking for different keywords on this site - it 's FREE too! You just enter the URL and the Keywords and it comes up with more and shows you how competitive they are.

    1. Press CTRL+u to view the HTML code. Find the title, meta description and meta keywords (if any). Usually webmasters include their keywords in these tags.

    2. Pay attention to internal links - anchors will probably include keywords.

    3. Do backlink research with SEO SpyGlass, paying attention to backlinks - they'll also be filled with keywords.

    4. Monitor rankings with Rank Tracker.

Other than linkassistant above, the rest of you guys didn't even read the OP!!! He or she is trying to find a way to find keywords that another site is targeting or ranking for. Thus, 'meeting with friends' and 'brainstorming' will not do him or her any good!

To answer the OP's question, I like to use SEMRush and also look at their anchor texts for their incoming links.
