PR has nothing to do with SERP.

As the poster above said PR doesn't mean more traffic or better serps....it's just a little green bar that webmasters jump all over the place for.....

This just tends to prove that PR is not so important. People are always trying to improve PR for some reason. They should concentrate on SERP listing improvements and let PR worry about itself. Your income will not improve with higher PR, unless you go higher in the listings. So a site with PR0 and 100 visitors a day will earn no more money than that same site with 100 visitors a day and PR5.

No Tim it doesn't prove that at all. What it proves is that the pagerank update to the toolbar lags WAY behind the internal pagerank calculations inside Google. People think that something new has happened to their site when they see a PR update. The only new thing is that it is now announced to the Toolbar user what Google has been seeing . In reality the way that Google has been seeing the site has not changed. Your page was a PR whatever it shows now for quite some time.

Pr is important for one very good reason. It shows the combination of quality and quantity of links you are getting. Without anchor text of course you will not rank for a term but when you combine the anchor text you are getting with PR it can and often does predict a serp result relative to another site.

So its neither most important nor totally unimportant people just need to know how both anchor text and PR should work together.

Your actual PR didn't change. Google has said it's continously updated. Only the publicly visible number is only updated every 6 months or so.
We can't say if PR affects serps from the public updates.

PR does have something to do with SERPs. It's a tool that google
founders came up with. Specifically for....*gasp*...search results!

I don't know why this myth continues to abound. Just because not
all searches give websites that have no PR, low PR, high PR, or whatever,
in no way, shape, or form, means that PR has nothing to do with
        SERPs.

Because search results are based a lot on the person, place, time,
and item searched for, PR may be trumped by relevance and/or
        authority.

But PR does play an active part in virtually all searches.
PR and SERPs are like a funnel going into a filter.

Google is a rather large, competitive, valuable company. Silly
to think they would spend time and money on something not
        used. It's trademarked and patented.

When Google was founded, one key innovation was PageRank, a technology that determined the "importance" of a webpage by looking at what other pages link to it, as well as other data. Today we use more than 200 signals, including PageRank, to order websites, and we update these algorithms on a weekly basis.

I guess it is a clear message coming from Google to stop caring about the PR as it is not directly related to SERP rankings. Like the old saying goes, a PR 0 can outrank a PR 4 on a particular keyword competition. When looking at backlinks, it boils down to which are useful, not which are with good PR.

I definitely agree with this. Keyword ranking is more important. It is what the people are putting in the search box.

    Look guys its really simple.

If a site has a PR 5 page that is targeting "make money online" and it is outranked in a serp for " start a business today" it does NOT prove that PR is not important. In order for you to make that case you would have to show two pages with the same level of on page SEO targeting the same terms in their anchor text.

Put those pages through a test and 90% plus of the time the site that has the higher PR WHEN THE PR ALSO PASSES ANCHOR TEXT will smoke the site that has Lower PR links coming in with the same anchor text.

When the PR is the measurement of the links coming in for a particular anchor text then PR will win most of the time (always some odd hidden factor with Google in rare circumstances).

I think that Page Rank does not affect as much as webmaster normally considers. It all depends on backlinks those you get and the crawling rate if your website is being crawled with low time then your website's ranking is gonna up or improve.

SERP never depends upon Page rank. Both are different terms.I don't think why people thinks about PR.PR has no role in improve SERP as well as business Growth. It only matters for those who sell links on their domains. So we should keep focus on quality backlinks with regular content updates to get high SERP.

Hey guys I have something that will definitely help you out with building PR, if you want to build your PR guaranteed write some good solid content on your blog over the next month or so and read this to see how i got a PR 4 on a brand new domain in less than 6 weeks...i got proof too... the links hting may have some effect but i had some garbage links that actually caused my domain to drop to end of the bus yet google still loved it enough to give it PR4...maybe it was cuz i did a video of matt cutts ....who knows LOL read that though it wil bless you

I think PR matters when you are placing a backlink from a site to your site. It doesn't seem to effect the serps much but I guess it matters what anchor text is being targeted.

Yeah, that can help u in better ranking.

By the way, I would still say - Content is the king, If you have got good content, people will backlink to your website and gradually over a period of time, you will get good serps as well as better PR

PR assignment is the actually the count of authority votes (in shape of backlinks from reputed websites )

keep three things in mind when you think about improving your rankings,
    1. Quality of baclinks
    2. Quality of content
    3. Social media reputation
