Hello warriors,

Im wondering if symbols "#$%&/(=, etc... count when it comes to passing pagerank from a website to another, lets say the anchor text is "?" of course i wont rank for that, but if the backlink comes from an authority site then does it work?

probably the only SEO question i dont know how to answer

It is still beneficial. Anchor text is just one of many variables that determine the weight of the link, a link with no or irrelevant anchor text is still worth something though.

    Hi espe,

I wouldn't advise it! It is easily detected by search engines and will be devalued.

Here's what Google has to say about it:

Hiding text or links in your content can cause your site to be perceived as untrustworthy since it presents information to search engines differently than to visitors.
If your site is perceived to contain hidden text and links that are deceptive in intent, your site may be removed from the Google index, and will not appear in search results pages.

It's still beneficial, although not nearly as powerful as an anchor text backlink.
