Twitter Is Good For Seo

Today, I noticed that my Twitter mini-blog had a page rank of 3/10.

What is really amazing is that I did absolutely nothing to promote it. My conclusion to this it that Twitter helps for rankings, and it can even help those who want to be indexed fast since it had Google love.

Good to know.

Interesting, are you getting any traffic from it? I noticed that I get a trickle of traffic just from my twitter profile.

Yes Tom, I get some traffic. Not a lot, but it's good. I even made an affiliate sale just with a twit.

It's amazing, but twitter also rank in search engines (Google) for the username (keyword) you chose.

This add up to the traffic as well.

So Frank are you trying to say that instead of using my name, my Twitter alias should reflect the keywords for my product?

Nope, I am using my name on twitter, and I only have one account.

I was just saying that Google love twitter and that it helps to add your site's url there from time to time.

Just open an account and get some tweet outs...

Same with you, I also received great amount of traffic on my sites through twitter. But I don't think username can rank high on search engines(Google) especially to a competitive one.

My tracking logs show that Twitter is currently my second highest source of traffic and I've only been using it a week. I already have almost 1,000 followers and the whole thing seems to be snowballing with many new people following me everyday.

You simply can't ignore Twitter as a traffic source, but you must be very subtle in the way you use it - no out and out marketing.

      Be successful,

Twitter is one of my main traffic sources and for those that are new to micro blogging site here are a few tips that may help you understand it a bit more:

Each "tweet" is 140 characters and it is turned into it's own html webpage. You can view any of your individual tweets by clicking on the time stamp that immediately follows your message and it will bring up the page that has only your tweet and you can copy your url.

With that said, you can social bookmark your targeted tweets, yes, fitting those keyword rich words in at the beginning of your tweet help and include a http:// link then grab the individual tweet url and follow your social bookmarking strategies that you use for blog posts or link to them from inside your blog post- building backlinks to your main profile page as well.

Also remember that your twitter profile has it's own RSS feed... you can do wonderful things with those feeds

However, if you are new to Twitter please remember that it is a very strong community to use the "power of the force for good" hahaha We've had a ton of spammers lately and it gets you nowhere, go watch expert affiliate marketers like @lynnterry and @williecrawford among hundreds of more that are great examples of how to mix quality tweet promotions with relationship marketing- meaning they create and foster the relationships with their followers and provide quality content in addition to their promotions so this HELPs make your followers click on more of your links.. I know it's obvious/common sense, but I had to include that.

It also helps to link to your main profile page url in your newsletters, blog posts, squidoo. There are many now that are actually getting redirect urls - twitteryourname.com and directing people to their profile page that way.

Hope this helps someone new to Twitter! Hope we can "tweet up"

        Kristen @KristenArnold

Sorry to rain on the SEO parade guys but I disagree that Twitter has any direct SEO benefits for your sites because the links posted on there are "nofollow". Twitter is great for connecting with like minded individuals and all the other stuff that goes with the platform, but it's not going to help any of your sites rank as it doesn't pass any juice from the links.

thats true but its a good way to get your blog posts, article posts etc indexed quickly as the google spiders follows all the tweets. So use it whenever you update your blog etc.... i.e. new blog post Example Web Page

Build up your followers. Best if they are targeted. You can do that by going to wefollow.com and selecting someone popular in the niche you want to target, then start following their followers a lot of these people will follow you back.

Every couple of days remove the people who don't follow you back using Huitter.com/mutuality - Twitter cheats, tweaks, tools and then start following more.

Everytime you post a blog post, make sure its sent to twitter. If you use wordpress there is a plugin that does this automatically. There is also a plugin for Live Writer which you can use.

As long as your followers are targeted to your niche and you have a decent amount of followers over 2K you should get a decent amount of traffic from these tweets.

      Be one with the Twitterness.

For those of you that don't get it yet.. just dig in. Read everything you can about it and start using it. There are a lot of details that aren't immediately obvious if you just stare at the home page and post 140 characters here and there..

..there are tools that can help you break down the conversations and build tight groups of people to interact with for different reasons. You can track topic level conversations by keyword.

Use it to build your brand, connect with your customers, clients, members.. drive more traffic and make more sales.

Use it to drive traffic to your blogs, articles, squeeze pages..

I even use it when I have a question on a topic and I am seeking a quick answer about something. There is a way to get that markets attention by using hash marks.. and post your questions; the answers often come... so it has value that is hard to put a price on.

Use those same hash marks to draw more attention to your tweets.

It will click once you get past looking at the surface and dig in.

Twitter can be a nice source of traffic and makes it easy to do relationship type marketing, but just watch, in a couple years, people will have moved on from it. Just like people started with Friendster, then Myspace became the big thing, then Facebook, now Twitter... it won't be long until the next big thing comes along and everyone rushes over there. Not saying thats good or bad, but just that it's the "trendy" thing right now and trends don't tend to last.

Also, I agree with the guy that said Twitter links don't count as backlinks for SEO purposes, since they are all nofollow.

Just go to Twitter and ask people there, start communicate with people.

and you also have many tools on this thread, just look at people sig files, etc...

But before you start, I hope you have something to offer in the first place?

Because making money comes down to: Market + Product + Traffic + Conversion

If one of them is missing, don't start with twitter yet.

      Franck
