Backlinks not registering?

I've been working on backlinking for the past week or so but the ranker checker I'm using doesn't register that I have any backlinks. Is it just that they take a while to index or what? I'm still pretty new to this, so what should I expect if I'm building 4 or 5 links a day?

Thanks!

    • It can take a while for Google to find them and index them. Just keep building them and they will show up eventually.

4-5 links daily is quite low. I'd suggest bumping it up to at least 10, possibly even 20.

Backlinks can take awhile to index. Basically the web crawler needs to re-crawl that page, and index your link for it to count. Depending on the Authority of that site, that could be a few hours, a few days, a few weeks, or longer.

I always prefer to let links get indexed naturally. Some people will suggest pinging them, bookmarking them, or even building more links to those pages. I don't do that, because I try and mimic a natural site growth as closely as possible. On that small of a scale, it probably wouldn't make a difference in negative rankings, but would help get the links indexed.

Make sure the sites you're building links on are high PR or on reputable site, and if the niche is related, all the better. Keep a variety of sites on your link building list, don't just do blog comments or forum posts. And make sure to keep the link building pressure on for a few months. You can slowly increase the amount of daily links over that time.
