Here is a list of add-ons I install onto my WP blogs every time I start up a new site.
The most common one which everyone gets for a good reason will have to be:

The next add-on I install is
Google XML Sitemaps
This plugin will generate a special XML sitemap which will help search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing and Ask.com to better index your blog.
The next one I get to ensure I am within the terms and conditions stated on google adsense is:
Easy Privacy Policy
Automatically adds a privacy policy page that includes an Adsense compliancy section.
Another usefull add-on just to add another page and some communication is:
Contact Form 7
Just another contact form plugin. Simple but flexible.
You activate it, click on the plug in copy the code, create a "contact us" page and paste that in the body.
Quick Adsense
Quick Adsense offers a quicker & flexible way to insert Google Adsense or any Ads code into a blog post.
This is good as it inserts your google adsense code before and after your post.
Link Juice Keeper
This plugin helps you to keep the link juice by redirecting all non-existing URLs which normally return a 404 error to the front blog page using 301 redirect.
This plug in is useful if you have ever had posts/pages which you have lost this redirects any incoming links to your homepage
PPinger
Pings your blog to Pingomatic using your visitors's IP's
Pingbacks on Comments
Performs pingbacks on the links within comments
