I looked at all my top competitors and the only SEO that they are doing is link exchanging and buying links. I thought google hated this stuff.

ALso, all the links they are buying are on pretty decent PR pages. Are they getting benefits from this?

yes link buys work and thats the reason why google frowns on it. its all about getting a strong link and the basic measure is from sites with REAL pr eg homepage sitewide links.

It just seems like there are better things to do with your 100 bucks or however much it costs for that link. Do you recommend any places that are good to buy links? Textlinkbrokers.com?

If your competitor report to Google, worst thing can be happened to your site so avoid it.

I don't think paid links are still worthy. Google has their own ways to determine a paid link, and it is so certain that Google doesn't like paid links.

Buy Link and Link exchanges are not a good practice on Google's think of view. That matter is when Google calcurate your competitor's link values and then Google will decrease their ranking.

They are still in top position it doesn't mean they will stay on top rank. They will definitely loss their ranking.

So, always do what google loves and forget other things

It totally works and to figure out if its worth it all you have to do sit down for 1 hour per day for 5 days building links yourself. Then after 5 days see how many links you made.

Then figure out how much 5 hours of your time is worth. If you can buy links for cheaper than whatever that number is then go ahead and buy links.

Some of you are saying that buying backlinks or link exchanges are "bad" because "Google doesn't like them".

I used to think that and I no longer believe it. Why? Because I saw that my competitors were using link farms and so on to get better ranking than I have and so google certainly is not penalizing them for it.

If you have any proof that google penalizes anyone for using bought backlinks or link exchanges I'd like to see it. Really, I would.

I also see that some people on this forum are selling backlink services and others are recommending them, and most of the old timers seem to agree that it works. No offense but most of the people I see saying that google will punish you for this etc, are newbies here... So I am curious: What proof do you have that google punishes you for using backlink farms or exchanges, buying them, etc.??

I myself read it in a book, something like "SEO For Dummies" or something. I believed it because I read it in a book. Like I said, I no longer believe it.

I still think buying links still works. But you should be trying to buy links from relevant sources. And getting contextual links is a big plus.
