Crazy Zebra Princess: How to be #1 in 3 hours with 6 million other results

Hey everyone,

I'm making this thread as a quick reminder on how to evaluate competition correctly in the SERPs.

The search phrase "crazy zebra princess" has over 6 million results -> this means absolutely squat for competition levels. This thread will rank and likely soon be the #1 result for this search phrase.

Use "phrase" searches and use the allintitle: search operator to get the # of real competitors. Also, there could be 1 million competitors, but only the top 10 really matter. Study NOT the # of backlinks they have, but look at the QUALITY of the backlinks they have. Check out how old the sites are, how many pages they have, which other terms are they ranking and competing for etc. My point is that there are a ton of different ways to gauge and understand your competition, but the # of results is just not one of them.

One last point -> stop worrying about the # of backlinks a page has, seriously. I made one blog comment on an unpopular blog and had a link featured on the sidebar of every single page of that blog b/c I made a "recent comment". It was over 100 links. Recently, all of them but the original comment disappeared because my "recent post" got bumped. Guess what happened to my rank? Absolutely nothing. My site now has 100 less weak links and the exact same position in the SERPs.

[UPDATE] This thread is now the #1 search result for a phrase with 6 million results.
