How much to charge for SEO in the UK?

I am currently doing on-page SEO for some companies as well as owning my own sites.

How much would you guys charge for on going off-page SEO for a company(per month)? This is assuming that the keyword gets for example 1000 exact match searches per month and it has low-medium competition?

Any suggestions are welcome!
Thank you!

Based on UK based SEO companies I have experience with (or digital agencies, or whatever they may be calling themselves) - they might charge around £300 a day for off page ranking services. Obviously they don't charge 30 days a month @ £300, they'll gauge how many days worth of work is required too, sooner or later, get a site/page in a decent page one spot and work out how many days a month to charge based on that (not likely more than 4 or 5 days worth of work a month unless its a really big job). They will offer up monthly link reports, show evidence of articles written, and SERPS reports etc, to back that up.

As a freelancer or if you're just starting out and trying to start building up a client base (or just have some bills to pay... :p), something more like £150 a day is a pretty reasonable rate as long as you have some confidence you can get a decent SERP position and give an honest opinion to your clients on the time-frame.

thanks you the info. i did not know that seo companies in the uk charge by the day. i have contacted some big seo companies from the uk to check and see what they charge, and they were giving fixed prices. Prices varied a lot from company to company though.

Would you say that for a keyword that gets 1300 exact match searches with medium competition £400 per month is resonable?

I have always heard figures from the USA as SEO is a lot more popular there. But no figures for the UK

It's not always about how much money you can squeeze out of people. I have found that (after much testing) if you simply do some research on your competing SEO consultants and find out what they are offering you can often beat them out of the water on price.

My strategy has always been to take the best components of each SEO company (contact them if you have to) and see how you can integrate them into your service. Try to automate the strategy as much as possible with custom built systems or hiring VAs, etc.

Once you have worked out your cheapest possible costs, add in an honest rate for your time and see how that stacks up.

You will probably work out cheaper than your competition and this gives you an advantage.

On the flip side, you don't want to price yourself too "cheap". If you are too cheap you risk coming across as a substandard service.

I have contacted many seo companies to see what they charge...and most of them were charging over £800 per month for a keyword that got 2000 searches and had medium competition ....

I will definitely charge less, but will not offer some ridiculously low price as that will make some people wonder...they might think that the services offered are of a low quality,...and that is certainly not the case

2,000 searches?? My Uk customers would laugh at me if I gave them such a low target. I'm not Uk based but I do work in the UK and I don't charge by the day. I do it buy the projected hours per month.

For a grasp on the industry. Its a bit outdated but its still a good indicator.

Most IMers would gasp at such prices but remember these are NOT "SEOs" that just buy senukeX and run AMR. I do in fact go well below that for a few Imers but I have to really like their site and what they are doing.

2000 searches per keyword I meant. And the majority of companies that have approached me usually like to start with such keywords as they will not pay huge amounts for SEO.

I have a contract to do seo for an estate agency and they were more than happy to show up for a buyer keyword that got 1600 exact match searches.

yes I can see that for high payout niches, An estate agency can make a good return off one customer so I can see that angle.

Lots of companies in the UK charge fixed prices for an "SEO package" and some smaller specialist boutique style agencies in london can charge £100 per hour!!

Ask yourself how much you would pay for your services (knowing exactly what they are) if it were the other way round. Be honest withyourself about how much you can reasonably ask people to pay and start there.
