How to find keywords you know nothing about?

I find that the best niche markets are for keywords you and most people (well people capable of creating a website) know nothing about.

Does anyone have any idea how to find "random" keywords with say... 500-5,000 local searches monthly? I guess the only thing I can think of is to have a list of every keyword, manually identify interesting keywords and invest the time / research from there. Is there even a place you can get a list of every keyword? Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Well, you can use tools like the Samurai. You can also use Google adwords. Of course you must have some basic to do that. If you really don't know nothing then you can hire a person to help you.

Well for example, I have a website right now that makes a good chunk of money. I sort of randomly found that the idea could be profitable, took maybe a year or two for the light bulb to turn on for me.

The keywords that I target on my website are so random that I would have never even guessed that it would be profitable (without some research that is...). I don't think there is a way to get every keyword with the Google Adwords tool, because you need to type something into the keyword box for results to show up. That's the problem, because if I already know what the keyword is, it probably won't be profitable.

I use my copy of the Random House Word Menu by Stephen Glazier for brainstorming on just about everything. It's a dictionary organized by topics instead of alphabetically (and without the definitions.)

If it was easy finding profitable keywords, everyone would be making money online.

Good luck, just make sure you research your market very well.

I like to find keywords at a couple of places. If I am looking to update a current site, I will take a peak at google trends and see what is popular at the moment.

If I am just doing research I like to head over to Business To Business (b2b) Marketplace - Manufacturers Directory For International Trade Leads
and get some ideas for products. If you scroll to the bottom of the page you will see A-Z and you can click on each letter and it will bring you to pages full of keywords you can use for ideas.

I'd suggest getting 'buyer niche' ideas from places like Amazon, eBay, Buy.com, etc. and then using something like Keyword Sniper Pro to 'drill down' the keywords. I've found many off-the-wall, seemingly random searches that I knew nothing about that got huuuge search figures and CPC's.
