I've found that it seems to be a big factor with Google. Not so much with MSN.
But with enough relevant and quality backlinks, aged domains can be beaten.

It is very important. Having said that, it does not mean that you cannot outrank them. I have sites that outrank amazon and other big websites with old domains.

The most important thing is the backlinks number ...but you must also check the quality of the backlinks. you can beat a website with 1000 pr0 backlinks with just 100 high pr backlinks from blog comments, forum signatures, web 2.0, article directories, social bkm,etc

    I hope this helps!

      Thanks for the tips.

Mince001- Are you using the wpcore plugin on your sites in your signature? If so, how has that worked out for you, do you notice a difference in email sign-ups?

Also is there any service you would recommend for getting those 100 high pr backlinks or any tips on how to find those.

That usually seems to be the case, as long as your on-page SEO is spot on.

Age is just one of the important factors when it comes to SEO and it affects rankings moreso in Google than in any other search engine. The big G wants to know that you have a legitimate website by checking domain age. With regards to backlinking, I would say that with enough quality, not quantity, backlinks you can beat out age. But it definitely helps to have age on your side.

Domain age is good only when you have some good content on it. So it is said that
once you register your domain, try to publish some content as soon as possible

Domain age has three things to do with SEO:
      Zilch, nada, and zip.

It makes domain resellers rich, among other things.
They sell fantasies and dreams of doing nothing
in exchange for instant riches. One thing more on the
      list of voodoo SEO.

Just answer the hypothetical question. A site one year
old is #1. A domain is 3 years old. So, I can just take
the old domain and instantly have a leg up? Of course
not. But that's what people want you to believe.

And soon as they say, "but..." the whole thing falls flat.

Domain age is absolutely important, but it's not going to stop you from ranking for keywords or getting other SEO traffic. Also, you can forward buy years onto your domain's registration to somewhat compensate for this SEO penalty. Forward buying is said to benefit your SEO, but I believe domain age is a greater SEO factor.

I think I'll stay middle of the road and worry more about backlinks and on page optimization instead of investing to much thought into domain age

google is actually a domain registrar. so they have access to all the data.

Domain age and Page Age are different though.
What Google probably looks at is the date that the page enters their index. Not necessarily the domain age. Although most times, the two are one and same - only off by a few days.
