Well In My Opinion Google Will Take some time to compete FB.. Facebook is performing exceptionally well at this moment and its new features will definitely helps to increase its Fan Following.. While Google +1 Definitely helps Google regain its ranking!! No Doubt there is very tough competition ahead for achieving the top slot..

It will take a long time for even the best social networking site to compete with facebook. I have a google+1 account and currently have one friend. That's it. Until you get your circle of friends to switch, you probably won't be encouraged much to use it.

Google is on the right track for their site because I've complain for years about how much I hate facebooks interface as far as filtering out crap. Normally I don't care what high school classmates or distant friends have to say and on facebook it is hard to filter them out without removing them.

Both suffer from the same problem and that is selling out your information to third parties. If someone new came along with the promise of not sharing your information, I think they would take off.

Facebook has reached a point where they are slowing regardless of the existence of Google+. Sure, they'll keep bringing in new members but it will be a much slower pace.

Google+ is going to start out with the tech geeks (because they're the ones who are already on.) Once it opens to the public it will be a bunch of people who are looking for a clean slate and are tired of all their "friends" on facebook but don't have the heart to unfriend their cousin's son's girlfriend - or in my case, those people from college that I was just curious what they were doing but now don't need to know that their kid pooped all over the carpet.

People have short memories. Just like the housing bubble. People were
acting as if prices never have dropped before and that's why they never
          will. Hardly logical.

          One word: myspace

700 million members does not mean 700 million users.

Google+ is not yet the Facebook killer. It's going to be hard to unseat the 700 million users addicted to Facebook.

What is interesting in Google+ users who are more social and make efforts to be social are rewarded and it's "likely" the content shared this way will have more relevance via search.

Facebook's biggest concern should be Facebook itself. They continually make changes to their interface and lessen the user experience. That's why you're seeing a drop in people using the service and spending less time on their site.

Google is going to win the game, in my opinion.

Reason? As soon as they (facebook) make a small change in their algorithm, it screws up members' privacy and account settings and people struggle to set them again. Then there are security issues.

It will take some time to get out of that comfort zone and get used to G+, but I am all for it.

You can't compare google+1 with facebook, as google+1 is just like 'like' button of facebook
If you mean google+ then yes, facebook will have some disadvantage and loose something 1

I don't use facebook. I was late to the party, and it just seems like a very poorly designed UI. I lost interest in about 5 seconds. Never went back.

My wife is facebook all the time, she has been since the beginning.

I got a Google+ account and I actually like it. I only have 5 people on there in my circles, and I haven't spent much time on it, but it seems simple and easy to use.

I have no idea if it will overtake facebook, but all through history the biggest and best have been dethroned over and over again.

I wouldn't be surprised one way or the other.

Advantage of G having there own button is that they can include that info in search rank.

Yeah, I absolutely agree with you buddy,

Google +1's on a site can help in the search engine rankings in the long run!

The battle between Google+1 and facebook likes is on....

By the way, I think we guys should give some time to google+1 to show its true power, After all, it has just recently been launched... facebook is there since 6 years

Facebook is more than a website now. Its a very veryyyy popular brand.

Plus, you are talking about 700 million people, who are addicted to facebook. No way.

Defeating facebook in social networking area is like defeating google in search engine race, which is impossible. But we should give new things a try, who knows...

If you are comparing Googles +1 button with facebook likes, then yeah it will be more important as eventually it will effect searches.

If you are talking Google + the social site with Facebook, than again I think it will win in the end, but if you think about it (or have looked at it more) it is not only taking on facebook, or twitter, but also Microsoft and I would assume eventually Apple!

What do I mean well, you sign up and first thing you will notice is that you whole world can be accessed via the site! their documents tab, mail, photos etc are all there for you to start using in the cloud! (an app type store will be around soon!!).

As for it's use as a social tool, well I have 2 actual friend who are on there, but I have over 50 business contacts and I haven't even started adding many!! The great thing is though you get to keep people seperate, so I can share jokes with my friends but people who are interested in my business will not see these if I don't want them to. It really is like having twitter, facebook and linkidin all in one place!

It takes some getting used to and will surely grow even more, but so far I am really impressed.

Would not put this past Google for one second. I remember the myspace days, when I heard about facebook I laughed and said "haha, don't they know there is already myspace ?" but sure enough they made myspace irrelevant.

I like Google for 2 reasons: massive user base + name recognition, it is a publicly held company (many many many more dollars)

Google is like the TrapperKeeper from South Park that just absorbs anything it touches. It may take time sure, but Google just has entirely too many resources.

Look for Facebook to go public very soon, if they don't do this they are history for sure.

Eventhough Google+ already has over 10 million members, I'm 100% positive that this is in fact because Facebook exists. Facebook opened the social networking world to many people who didn't know what it was despite MySpace, Netlog, etc, so more people will be inclined to play with the latest toys. But more importantly, many invites have been shared over Facebook. I just need to look at my Facebook page to see how many people are giving and asking invites.

Regardless of that, I do believe Google+ has the power to overtake Facebook as long as they are able to convince 100-200 million "normal users" that their system has better features. When I say "normal" users, I mean people who are not at all interested in social media per sé but just use Facebook for the contact with their friends, so not "computer geeks" if you will . And 100-200 million users will probably be enough to create the ripple effect needed to bring the remaining 500 million to Google+.

People who sign up to Facebook Do So because of curiosity. However, most people around us are either not curious or won't do anything out of curiosity. If everyone in the world have the habit of testing waters, Warrior Forum will have 6 billion population!

So what the heck am I trying to say? Yes, Google + will be a success because people like me and you are curious. But it won't be as successful as Facebook. When you can't find your friends frequently using Google +, the only option is to switch back to Facebook.

In my opinion, there is only one type of business that can outdo its predecessors every time; it's called pornography.

What does google have to do with FB?

People are mixing up apples and oranges.

FB was a myspace killer. But not really. Just got more
      popular.

Google+1 is not a facebook. Not even trying to be.

Google just had record profits online.

Everyone talks about facebook as if it's the only site on the
web with millions of users. It's not. Google owns and operates
3 megasites in the top 10,

      google.com
      youtube.com
      blogspot.com

So, why isn't anyone saying how come FB has not managed
      to unseat the google empire?

Will FB ever take over google and it's gmail platform?

      Come on people.

What has FB done? What has twitter done? Everybody was
gaga about twitter. Now it's going downhill. MSN trying
to pick up some scraps...shoot. MSN has yet to turn one
penny in online profit. Always 10 steps behind google.

Look at the bottom line. Profits. Google's stock went
up by 70 friggin points in one day last week.

MS isn't even worth half of 70 bucks.

The questions about google and FB are just lame.

Google is an empire. The biggest, baddest online empire
      in the universe.

FB cannot compete on that level.

And yet, just look at the replies. Like somehow google
      is lagging behind FB. Hardly.

Would anyone like to hazzard a guess as to how many
youtube videos are viewed on a daily basis?

Youtube alone has about the same unique visitors monthly that
      FB has. 800 million.

Google+ is not even about "beating" FB. It's about adding to
      more record online profits.

Obviously they can or they wouldn't have the largest social network on the internet. Google has wanted in on the social side of the internet for some time and it has eluded them at every turn.

Yes, Google owns youtube, and it has been a money loser for them since they bought it. People viewing videos for free doesn't equal money especially when they don't click ads.

Google + and Google +1 are just the newest failures of Google to get in on the social game...a year from now no one will even be talking about +1

I think that Google opened Google+ brilliantly. They opened it initially to a small group of influential people. Allowed those people to only invite 'their friends' and then closed it off for a while and let the 'popular group' play. Meanwhile these influential people are blogging and talking about how great Google+ is to each other through their blogs. Their readers cant get membership to this 'exclusive club' they are blogging about so the masses go wild trying to find a way 'in' to the 'popular group'. People went so far as to SELL Google+ invites on eBay! Then... when they generate just enough buzz, generated just enough curiosity, then they open the floodgates and EVERYONE wants in... brilliant... bravo Google...
