Personal Branding and the .me domain

I'm looking at creating a blog for personal branding. My name is not available for .com, but it is available for .org and .net. I also found a .me domain available.

So that made me wonder if the .me domain would be a great way for personal branding and SEO. I've heard so many debates on this which makes it a tough decision as I've heard that Matt Cutts said Google is not placing any difference on gTLD domains (.com, .net, .org).

Is .me a new gTLD? and is it great for personal branding a blog?

    Nothing wrong with it. I see youtube is using .be (youtu.be) as
    their link shortener...

    You don't have to use your full name. If you really want a dot
    com or other, think outside the box.

    Hello Tonybianco;
    Matt Cutts is right Google or any other search engine is not favoring any gTLD's it's the same olde thing keep your content on target and fresh. Also as Paulgl states think outside the box.(change name spelling,see if the person who owns the .com will sell you it for cheap,split up the name selling,etc). Lots of Luck

    Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. Always been a subject of curiosity with me.

    I'm looking at tonybianco.me and thetonybianco.com. I could also go with tonybianco.org or .net but I really like the .me sound to it. I think it's catchy for a personal brand & blog.

    The problem is that tonybianco.com is a famous Australian shoe designer. I've beat him out #1 before when I was going after my personal brand using social media profiles, but now I want to start blogging with my name. So that's why I was curious about the ".me" domain.

    I noticed that About.me is also kicking up quite the media press with their site. Obviously I would have to to think they looked into this.

    I do agree with everyone that people will default to a ".com". Which at that point anything other than a .com is having to retain the end users behavior in how they think of you and find you. Choices choices choices!

    For branding domain name is very important so it better to get .com domain then orders as you are asking for branding. From SEO point of view you can easily go other domains but for branding you have to go for .com...... cheers...
