Two Good PR8 Backlinks - but can i benefit at all?

I'm buying a PR6 site in my niche for peanuts.
But i'm trying to figure out the best way to capitalise on it.

The site in question has two incoming PR8 links (good blogroll links) - and what i'm thinking of doing is forwarding this site to my current one.

What i'm asking is if i do this - will it be as if these 2 PR8 links are coming to my site and will i get the PR juice?
Or will i get no benefit at all from doing this and i'm just better off linking to my current site from here?

Thanks for any advice.

If it's already PR6, I'd consider just making that your new website. Using a 301 redirect will keep most of the link juice, but it's usually better to use the more powerful domain as your primary one. Just note that switching domains will incur a penalty that can last for a while, depending on how many pages you have indexed.

There is no way I would mess with the site except to add links to
your current one. 301 should not be used that way. That basically
obliterates the whole site. The dynamics are now completely changed.

Even if you took the long road and matched up content for content,
and 301'd each page to a new page, you still have pretty much
deep-sixed a PR6 site. Not good. The trust and authority, if it
      had any, would be gone.

You would be better off to 301 the other way. Your current site to it,
and incorporate your content in the PR6 site. That way it gets traffic
from your current site and its content builds.

Actually try to maintain the site with low OBL and decent traffic and some good linkbuilding will increase your site to PR7 or 8 very easily.

Okay, I hope I'm getting this right - you're saying you've got 2 PR8 links going to a PR6 and you want to link to your site from this PR6 site?

If this is correct, then yes you will be getting some of this PR. PageRank cannot really be calculated due to the absence of many critical variables and factors we are unaware of. However, the most simplistic and somewhat practical means of calculating PR is...

The PR of the page in question divided by the number of links (dofollow AND nofollow). This number is passed through only the "dofollow" links and 10-15% is subtracted due to PageRank decay.

Basically, each page the "link juice" passes through takes a huge hit on the amount of PR being passed, but you might see some PR return on those PR8 links.

That being said, PR is over-rated and I would not go out of your way to collect it. Gathering good backlinks from popular or relevant sites is going to inevitably give you PR just as link building will inevitably provide you with "dofollow" and nofollow backlinks.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for the replies guys - it's very helpful.
My current site is also a PR6 and i won't be changing sites - i was just trying to figure out the best way to use this site. It's over 10 years old and hasn't been updated for about 3 years - I could probably build it out a little, but my main focus has to be on my larger site. The main reason i'm buying it was for the 2 PR8 links - which i thought i may be able to forward to my current site.
