Adsense is a numbers game, you need a many visitors to your site as possible that will be interested in clicking on your ads. That is why "buying keywords" are so much better to rank for. If you rank for keywords that people use when they are looking to take action you will generate a lot more clicks.

How do you know if you have a "buying" keyword versus an "info" keyword?

You have to use a bit of common sense here. A keyword like buy canon powershot s95 is a buying keyword and a keyword like how to comb your dog's hair is informational.

In addition, choose the right anchor text for backlink campaigns. I mean that you have to choose the anchor text that directly speaks to your visitors and pulls the traffic that your web page requires.

Well try repostioning your google ads. By doing this your testing where visitors on your website tend to look in respect to ad postion.

Also try experienmenting with image and text ads, and see which yield the most conversions and clicks for you.

You might need to test and try your ads location... what you can do maybe is:
1) Blend in with post.
2) Check out Adsense guide on Hot Zone
3) Change text links maybe once a month to prevent banner blindness
4) Change banner size / location to prevent banner blindness.

If you are lazy to do all that, you can purchase CTR theme... it's really an Adsense Optimized theme where people come in they definitely want to click a link and get out of you page. Works well for me! =)

If you can't incease the CTR consider increasing the CPC by re-optimizing your page for a better paying keyword phrase and attracting higher paying ads. For instance, 'health insurance' page doesn't pay as much as page optimized for 'health insurance quotes'.

You can increase the CTR by playing with how you display your ad. Sometimes blending the ad with the content in colors and font styles can get you higher CTR. However, be careful about this. If visitors confuse your adsense links with navigation to other content pages, they'll likely click back or close the window fast. Google watches for this type of things and may penalize you with so called 'smart pricing'

  1) Getting traffic to your site is definitely no. 1.
  2) Then try to keep the traffic (that you get) to remain on your site by posting interesting (sticky) content so that they stay long enough to look around and not just come and press the back button all within a few seconds.
  3) Try to position your Adsense ads above the fold, meaning the visitor should not have to scroll down your webpage in order to find them.
  4) Optimize your webpage by targetting high paying keywords so that even with a few clicks your payout is higher.
  5) Strictly adhere to Google's Adsense policies to avoid getting your account closed/banned.

First you need to get traffic to your site. Try to change the position your ads inside the blog post and not separate from the the content. This way users don't tune out the ad.

Ensure that you use the sizes of adverts as recommended by Google. In my experience the best performing one is 728 x 90 leader board. Make sure that it is enabled for both test and images and then position just below a subjects main heading.

Another consideration is that you use high performing Google Ads like 728x90 , 336x280 ... These have high CTR ratio as compare to other ads. Avoid using 460x80 it is mostly ignored by the visitors. Also change font and colour of your ads.
