Hi,
Is a second domain name beneficial? Let's say I register a domain name containing my keyword -- not attractive -- and I find another domain name that has a brand feeling, but without my keyword.

Is it worth getting a brand name domain even though the keyword is not popular (9k searches/month)? The reason I ask this is I want people to perceive my website more professional, thus increasing my affiliate's conversion.

If yes, how would I deal with this?

Thanks.

If you are going for SEO, a brand name isn't going to help you and so having it as an extra won't do you any good. If you are building an authority site, you'd be better off buying a well aged domain (with a brand you liked) and then building pages that each target a keyword.

Moreover, if at some point down the road, you had plenty of traffic, you could switch the site to a branded domain and then do a 301 redirect with the old "seo domain", but this is pretty mickey mouse, so I wouldn't recommend it as a strategy.

    Okay I got it, thanks!

It makes more sense to have a keyword domain name rather than a brand name since the keyword is not competitive.
