Will URL forwarding to same site w/diff domain lose my rankings?

Hey warriors of 2009

I have realized that branding one of my businesses around "Video Intro Templates" is much more lucrative/targeted than "Niche Video Clips" so I registered Videointrotemplates.com last night and set it up on my dedicated.

It is basically the same page as Nichevideoclips.com which is also on my dedicated, just with some of the language about the angle of each (nichevideos/video intros).

However, Nichevideoclips.com has very good placement with Search engines and I have some affiliates that send traffic there.

If I was to forward redirect to NicheVideoClips.com to Videointrotemplates.com, does that mean that I will lose my rankings or will Google say, "Oh, so he's forwarding his domain now to this site, we'll just index that one instead."

Or should I do a forward mask redirect to the site and will google recognize that? The affiliate tracking system isn't affected by masked links either, so that is kind of what I was thinking? However, I would really like to Nichevideoclips.com to just be replaced altogether by Videointrotemplates.com

Thanks warriors, your knowledge is very much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Scott

I switched domains on one of my sites and just put a 301 redirect on and google kept the rankings and eventually just updated to the new domain in the listings.

You need to 301 redirect every single page though. If you just dump all your old pages to the home page of your new domain you will lose rankings.

Use webmaster tools to get a list of all of your urls and then set up redirects for each of them.
