Not sure where to ask this, so forgive me if it's not in the correct area.

IF I am running an Adwords ad campaign AND my link happens to be showing on a site when the search engine spider crawls it, does the spider crawl my link and give me a backlink from that site until it re-crawls the page?

I ask because at times I've gotten a google alert indicating that my site has been mentioned, but when I visit the link, I'm nowhere to be found, BUT they do have Adsense up AND it is the type of site where my ad would possibly show.

Did that make sense?

Yes, your question does make sense.

Here is first what you need to understand spiders don't look at the web pages as we do they read the html language of the page.

And when you see any google ad on any site you will not see a back link point to the advertiser in the source code of that page, you will only find the google's code that they give to adsense websites. So the answer to your question is no it will not be counted as a back link to your site. I know this is bit techie but hope this make sense...

Bharat NT... thanks... that does make perfect sense... I knew that I only add a js script to my site when I add Adsense to them, so I couldn't figure out how another site's html could happen to show a link to my site from an Adwords ad I was running... the next time it happens, I'll crawl through their html to see if I can find out why I'm getting a hit from there...

Cadmo... well... I have the google alert set to my main URL, so when google sends me an email with a hit, I'm assuming they've got my link there somewhere... right?

and THAT'S precisely WHY I was asking... if it WERE crawling my link, I was gonna spend a few hundred just trying to get backlinks.... LOL

      Thanks for the info guys!

No, that's not the way it works. I wish if there was something like that, I mean think about this if google emails you every time they find a new link pointing back to your site all the tools that people are selling to figure the back links will only be of no use.

Does this make sense?? For example, let say we both are in weight loss niche and are competitors. And I am one of the black hat guys, what I can do is set up an alert for your website and google will tell me whenever you have a new backlink. Whooo...

They way it works is it will email you whenever they find your alert (word, url, whatever) on the web. It can be just simple text with no links in it...

  • No search bot cannot crawl that because google ad codes are made in java scrips and search bots are unable to understand it
