"Dropping" a Backlink on a .EDU Site?

Can I get a clarification on something? I've read in multiple guides now that I should "drop a link" from a certain site, like a .edu site, for example. What is meant by that? How do you just "drop" a link on a site?

I'm assuming this means to either add a comment on a blog post or set up a trackback by mentioning/linking to that blog post on my own site. Is there more to it than that?

Thanks.

I believe Blog commenting is what they mean by that.

Thanks Victoria. They always make it sound so easy but most of these sites have commenting turned off or otherwise unavailable. Kinda frustrating.

      Ken,

I have literally thousands of .EDU blogs at my disposal.

Most of them are virtually UNTOUCHED when it comes to comments.

      For example:

A .EDU blog from the University's 'Study Abroad' program.

As you can see, I'm literally the ONLY person commenting on these .EDU blogs -- (I'm a partner in the 'Slash Your Spending' ClickBank product.)

And, if you notice, you can navigate to literally hundreds of other posts within separate blog categories on that one page. You can seriously boost your SERPs like crazy with just one well-found .EDU blog like this one.

... and I've been able to come across hundreds and hundreds of them.

      Just gotta look. ;-)

BTW: feel free to have fun with that example I gave you. I'm currently working on another .EDU blog I've found and gift you this one.

    • Any .edu blog you could leave a comment on would be thoroughly trashed by spammers anyway. Why bother?

Recently i had an article written and published on a PR5 blog. When I checked the blog's backlinks, I found it had only five in all. But three were from Carnegie Mellon, of which this blogger was an alumnus. Nice links if you can get them -- but most people can't, of course.
