Alright, to be honest I dont have a huge opinion about microsites and I dont really like building them as there is a lot of effort involved in putting up each site, getting it indexed and configured right etc...

And with the new panda update microsites dont seem to fare that well in google search results...

Here is a video from Matt Cutts discussing this topic...

What do you think about microsites, what are your experiences and thoughts about them and whether or not you think its worth it or not worth it focusing on building lots of micro sites over having one or two authority sites that you work on constantly?

Micro-niche is not the same as micro-site. You're supposed to add content and expand your micro-niche site

If we mean small sites built around a MICRO NICHES, then I doubt very much that Google would want them gone because there are micro niches everywhere that cannot be served by large sites. Look at a shopping mall for some parallels--the small stores and tiny kiosks that sell specialty chocolates, cellphone covers, duplicate keys and engraved bracelets do good business and I can't imagine them being located at Sears or Marshal Fields. I'm sure the mall would be a very boring place without them. The same thing holds true for the web--we will always have small niches and the only way to serve many of those markets is through small sites.

About Matt Cutts--I would take what he says with a bit of salt. It's his job to confuse and mislead us IMers who are gaming Google.

He really didn't say anything negative about micro-niche sites though, he just said he would prefer to run one large site rather than many small sites, he didn't say running lots of small micro-niche sites is a bad thing.
