      If you're linking to the item from your website it doesn't matter if it's an external link or not you will get the commission.

      Here's the answer I got from Amazon support:

      In reference to your contact on the Associate fees that you earn. If the sale is made via a click on your link to Amazon.com then you will receive the referral fee this includes 3rd party sellers.

      ----

      In other words if you're linking to the product you will get the commission, but if the visitor clicks on a link from your site, then clicks away to another page on Amazon then clicks on an External link you will not receive the commission. Hope that makes sense.

      BTW I did begin to take notice after sending the email and did notice that sales were definetely coming from external links.

    looks like full commissions are made. this is the answer i got from amazon

    Thank you for writing to the Amazon Associates Program.

    The base advertising fee rate on items offered by third-parties--also known as Marketplace items--exactly matches the advertising fee rates we pay on items offered directly by Amazon. You can earn an advertising fee earning percent rate from 4% to 8.5% on items costs, that are shipped by Amazon or third-party sellers through Amazon Market Place. Endless.com, and SmallParts.com have a current Advertising fee earning percent of 15 %, of each Item cost.

    The compete outline of what items earn what percent in each of our Affiliated sites is outlined in the following URL :

      Well I asked Amazon in reference to external links like the following:

      Ships from and sold by Huppins.
      Available from these sellers.
      Ships from and sold by WorldWide Distributors fullfilled by Amazon
      -----

      Because the operating agreement states:

      The following are Excluded Products:

      any product or service sold on a site linked to from the Amazon Site (e.g., a product or service listed through our “Product Ads” program or sold on a site linked to from a banner ad, sponsored link, or other link displayed on the Amazon Site);
      -----

      I was more concerned about items that I had linked to that goes out of stock and then Amazon not restocking it and having the link change to an external link. Maybe I misinterpreted the "external link" part, but that's something you can't control anyway once they click on another page.
