I am very new to all of this, and started a blog 4 months ago. I get a lot of guest post requests which seem more like advertising imo. My question is, if I post those that are actually relevant to my site, will the links hurt my pagerank? Basically, do links in posts not on my homepage affect my homepage pagerank.

These guest posts should not seem anything like advertisements. It's your site so you can be selective and only take posts that you like and aren't overly promotional.

Links to their websites aren't going to hurt your ranking unless possibly (BIG possibly) they have really spammy sites. You're going to have outbound links -> having no outbound links would be crazy, no one else is worth linking to? Just monitor where your links are leading to:

There are times when I just wont publish an article because it just doesn't fit. There are rare times where an article fits in well, but the links are for totally unrelated topics - makes me wonder and a bit nervous.

If you're serious about your blog, I wouldn't post anything that isn't related and the page you're linking to should be related or at least relevant to your readers.

Put yourself in the shoes of your reader. If it's a good experience for them, go for it. If not, don't.

Here's my suggestion if you are accepting guest posts.

Establish a set of guidelines and be very selective as to what you are going to accept.

If the article contains "links" to other sites, it should be a redflag because what it sounds like people are doing is pumping you for backlinks. While this is one reason to guest blog, it should not be an advertisement for some other product / site etc.

Many sites do not allow linking to other sites unless it is absolutely necessary to illustrate a point.

The author's bios can contain a link to their own site and perhaps to their twitter account (or similar).

If it doesn't feel right, chances are it isn't.

if you mark the outbound link as "no-follow" then if won't affect your page rank. you see the linker gets credit for dropping on your site, but it affects your page rank. so if you are going to let someone guest blog with a link, be choosy and do what is right for your page ranking.

I get these comments on every blog post that I make. It is pretty annoying but I don't let anyone put links in comments on my pages unless I know the site they are pointing to are legit.

If you are getting good comment on your post but you found some think spamy in that particular comment then you can make no follow to that comment its all depend on you. And it will never hurt you page rank as well.
