GOOGLE/ADWORDS EXPERTS! Please help me get my AdWords account UN-SUSPENDED

Hi, all. Hoping you can help me out...

A couple of months ago, for the first time ever, I decided to start building a list using a squeeze page and free giveaway.

I have two AdWords accounts, one in my name, one in my wife's. One of the accounts had some free advertising credit in it, so I decided to try sending some google ppc traffic to the squeeze page.

I HAD NO IDEA that this was in violation of Google's policies - truly. But within about three days they had discontinued my ads AND SUSPENDED MY ACCOUNT.

This began my ongoing email conversation with a woman from support. Here's what has happened.

In an effort to get the account reinstated, I...

1. apologized repeatedly for my transgression
2. removed the squeeze page and set up a blog
3. populated the blog with original, useful content
4. removed ALL advertising of any kind (with the intention of monetizing later)
5. re-designed and re-written the content 3 or 4 times

I have resubmitted the site for consideration at least 3 or 4 times now. All they say is that it is still not in compliance and will require further changes.

I've asked for specific guidance and they will give none.

This has actually become kind of a game. I have another account, so I suppose I can just forget this one.

But I'm trying to learn from this. But for the life of me, I can't figure out what they are finding problematic. I have CAREFULLY written everything to be non-promotional, not implying any promise, etc.

I'm hoping that some of you might see something I'm missing.

I have no reason not to share the URL - it is not monetized and is not a money-maker in any way.

The site is startyourownbusinessnow.net .

If some of you have a few minutes and can give it a look, I'd appreciated. Any guidance would be immensely helpful.

Thanks in advance!
Adam

It may be those insurance links you have kind of hidden at the bottom. Since it's on the main page, it looks like those links might have been bought so to speak which is against their terms. Try taking those out and then trying again.

for starters, is your acct suspended or is the site disapproved? if it is disapproved, they told you why via email. if the acct is suspended, you may be out of luck. claiming ignorance is not a defense. they expect you to understand all tos BEFORE you use the service, not after.

A quick look at the site (from my iphone) doesn't present me with anything that is remotely helpful with starting a business. just lots of generic stuff. that alone could be most of your problem. adding in an optin to a thin site just compounds your problem

Both - site disapproved and account suspended. They claim if the site is approved they can un-suspend the account.

Re: content, I've tried to make it as "acceptable" as possible. I've removed anything that encourages anyone to start any particular kind of business. Probably, to your point, too much.

      Thanks for the input!

i have a similar issue except i have not gone to the extreme extent that you have to get this fixed by removing the optin altogether. i just posted a thread about it here.

    http://www.warriorforum.com/adsense-...ease-help.html

i mention a new theme that someone posted here in the forum that claims to make google friendly squeeze pages but im not sure if itll solve the issue.

if anyone would be willing to take a couple minutes to check out my page and let me know what you think the issue would be, i would really appreciate it.

Kevin, I'm (obviously) no expert at this. But I believe there is a difference between a "Google friendly squeeze page" and one that is acceptable for AdWords. From what I've been able to figure out, I do believe that a page designed strictly to gather information (a squeeze page) does not follow AdWords guidelines.

Mine was a brand new site. No money at all. So I was fine to just get rid of the squeeze and put up a blog.

Of course, that hasn't worked for me yet. But I'm not sure you'll ever get un-suspended for a squeeze page.

      Good luck!

      Kevin...

Just for reference, this is what Adwords sent to me when I was suspended for advertising a squeeze page:

Landing pages advertised via AdWords must have relevant, original content, and must be transparent about the nature of the business being promoted. Further, advertisers are prohibited from promoting certain types of sites, which include, but are not limited to:

      - Data collection sites that imply delivery of free items or other incentives to collect private information

      - Sites without relevant and original content that are designed for the purpose of showing ads
      - Affiliate sites without relevant and original content that are designed to drive traffic to another site with a different domain
      - Sites that make unrealistic promises of income claims or financial gains
      - Sites that are deceptive
      - Sites that distribute malware or spyware
      - Sites that contain extremely misleading/unverifiable or inaccurate claims

This was the page they then linked me to for more info:
Landing page and site quality guidelines - AdWords Help

      Hope this helps.

Not sure what you have done to date, but as it stands, there is an error on the page

    Webpage error details

Message: 'document.getElementById(...)' is null or not an object
    URI: hxxp://startyourownbusinessnow.net/wp-content/plugins/simple-sidebar-navigation/suckerfish_ie.js
the site seems to have the pages but a privacy policy on the site may work better rather than an off shoot.

the site itself offers nothing of real importance and is rather just a few loose notes placed together for the one purpose of promoting your ads, so in may ways it looks like your running some sort of arbitrage for the site, even if your not so remove all of the ads

remove any over hyped terms as well if you have them, and even then the site may not pass due to the normal info on the site / cheers

Google Adwords cracked down HARD on all "make money online" and "home based business" sites a few years ago due to the huge number of scam sites people were trying to advertise.

My site actually got caught up in the whole thing and it took me a while to get my Adwords account reinstated. Note that I wasn't promoting anything, but rather calling out the scam sites. Check out: Google Whacked – Our Adwords Account Still Wrongly Suspended

Honestly? Give up on advertising that site in Adwords. They will never approve it as a home based business site. Go to Yahoo or Adsonar or Bing.

If you REALLY want to fix it so that you get your Adwords account back you'll have to change that site to business advice instead.

Remove the current content, remove the paid links, remove the opt-in, add some posts about how to start an LLC or S-Corp or something and resubmit. Google will probably reinstate your Adwords account. Yeah, I know this isn't what you want to hear, but it's what you need to hear.

Actually it is EXACTLY what I want to hear! Thanks. I am happy to let the site die. I have NO INTENTION of every advertising it with Adwords again. I just want my account reinstated.

        Thanks!

Absolutely true, iwillwin. I have been back and forth now about 5 times. Fortunately, the customer service person I'm dealing with has been very nice - and seems to really want to help. But "her team" won't give her any specifics. So it's a continuous guessing game.

Just remember - it wasn't long ago that AOL ruled the Internet. EVEN the mighty G can fall!

I've actually read posts by a number of people (not here - on the Adwords forums) that had their account un-suspended. But in all cases, they said it took time and lots of "conversation" with Google."

They did the same thing to me once for one of my sites. I've yet to get that account back or figure out what the violation was for. Luckily it wasn't that big of a deal so I blew it off and moved on.

Where is your privacy policy. I couldn't find it. I know I don't see that well, but if you don't have one, they will not approve you no how.

Tim, thanks. The link was in the footer. But I've moved it up to main navigation. Again, I'm JUST trying to get the account unsuspended. I'd happily give up the site, domain, etc.

But the way it works is, after they've banned you because of a particular site, even if you never advertise that site again, you have to make it "adwords worthy" in order for them to reinstate your account.

      WOW!

Funny thing is... I'm not even an Adwords user. But I'd like to have that option available to me in the future.

I had a Google News site that got in trouble, and I got a letter from AdSense to tell me that GN had whacked me and my AdSense account was in trouble, and that this GN site could never have AdSense again. I was lucky that I didn't get my AdSense account suspended/banned too. All of Google's stuff seems to be inner related.

You have the two accounts, so you are protected for the most part. But if it happens again, you might have to set up a business and use a different address. A suite number on your current address MIGHT work. A new bank account might be necessary too. It is difficult to get back in from what I have heard. Hope it never happens to me.:p

News for everyone on this topic...

I learned this morning that FINALLY, Google has unsuspended my Adwords account.

For all of you who said that they "never" unsuspend accounts, this is first-hand proof they will.

For anyone searching for answers here, I will quickly recap what I went through, and what I believe will help get an account unsuspended.

    1. I was suspended for using Adwords to send traffic to a squeeze page - apparently forbidden. I was unaware at the time. SO IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR ADWORDS ACCOUNT, DON'T DO IT.

    2. This type of suspension is for landing page/content quality violations.

    3. I quickly contacted Adwords support.

    4. I immediately acknowledged MY MISTAKE, apologized, offered to fall on a sword, whatever. I get the sense they want to know you are sorry. ugh

    5. I went through AT LEAST 5 or 6 rounds of revisions.

    6. First, I turned my page into a blog, populated it with some original content, REMOVED the opt-in and any advertising (this is important for later).

    7. It kept getting rejected - and they would not tell me why. I kept trying to make it more bland and less promotional with each revision, and they still rejected it.

    8. FINALLY, someone on the Adwords forum pointed out to me that this was an ADWORDS suspension - meaning that they wanted to see proof that the site was "Adwords worthy." I had been addressing the wrong issues, at least in part. Yes, I was trying to add worthwhile content that wasn't overly promotional. But they wanted to see how I would effectively use Adwords for a monetized site.

    9. SO... I added the opt-in back and put some Adsense on there - and then made sure my Privacy Policy, Anti-spam Policy, Disclaimer, Earnings Disclaimer, External Links Policy and Terms Of Use were reasonably strong and visible on the home page (in footer). I DID put my privacy policy in the main navigation. (BTW, there are multiple sources for finding text for these pages online, and Wordpress plugins that will help generate them automatically - just make sure they are correct for your site, with proper names, contact info, etc.)

And that did the trick. I am back in their good graces.

My sense is that the constant back-and-forth is part of the deal with them. They want to see that people are sincerely trying to make a quality site.

Hope this is helpful to anyone who finds themselves in this situation. If you have a question, just PM me and I'll be happy to give whatever insight I can.

    Adam
