You can increase the traffic on you site in two ways.

      1> On page Optimization.
      2> Off page Optimization.

On Page optimization includes the following :

      -Meta tag keyword optimization
      -Meta tag description optimization.
      -IMG ALT tag optimization.
      -Content to Code ( C2C)
      -Site Map
      -Google XML Sitemap

Off Page optimization includes the following :

      -One way links.
      -Social Bookmarking.
      -Directory Submission.
      -Article writing and Submission.
      -Press release and submission.
      -Blog and forum posting.

There are lots of them, but these are the common ones.

      • NEVER put your keywords anywhere on your site. Because keywords were abused in the past, Google doesn't rank your site based on keywords. If you're interested in giving other users a way to find out what you're trying to rank high for, then post your keywords.

First you will need your site to have good content, but this will be pointless if you haven't first done some keyword research. If you're targeting competitive keywords, forget it! Your good articles and great content will slip under the radar.

Find yourself some 'longtail keywords' and re-write your content based around them. This is certainly the place to start followed by the 'right' backlinks. Again they need to be of good quality and based around your niche. The search engine robot's will be quick to spot that your backlinks are irrelevant and devalue your site.

There are of course many other ways but by far the best free ones that have worked for me are 'long tail keywords' and quality .edu and .gov backlinks.

You really want to take this a step at a time, first to make sure you get it right and secondly so that you can gage if it is working or not. Try doing all this at once and even if it starts working you won't know where from. Knowing where from enables you to do more of what's working and less of what's not.

Good luck and keep us informed on how it's going.

Do a search for forums specific to your site subject. Find out what the most active threads and start contributing to the forum. Build a rep and put your site link in your signature. It does take time but it definitely won't work if you do nothing.

      Nice advices people posted here.

But first of all, did you target a keyword that's not too competitive ?

Because to outrank a website on some given keyword it could take you hundreds of thousands of backlinks to outrank them, just saying.

In getting traffic, yeah, using social marketing is a good way of generating traffic for your site. But you must first consider what your site is all about. Is there something interesting about your site? Making your site more interesting and more user-friendly will help you a lot in getting traffic, specially through social marketing.

What kind of traffic are you looking for? Is it a niche site with affiliate links or Adsense? Is it an authority site that is regularly updated and you are using it to build a community and a list?

If you could reply with some more specifics, I could be more helpful.

Exactly what is a good bounce rate for a site? I would assume that it would differ based on the type of site and content, but is there some kind of baseline to shoot for?

The best thing you can do is to set up some sort of tracking on your site so that you know exactly where your traffic is coming from. When you start seeing keywords pop-up in your stats, focus on getting yourself ranked for those keywords.

Here are some traffic tips that I personally use:
-keyword research(google keyword tool it's good but Market Samurai works best here)
-write quality content and add your keywords:in the title, first sentence, tags and sprinkle it in the post(3-4 times. The keyword should be on each 100 words.
-use ALL IN One SEO Pack Plugin and fill in the title, description and keywords each time you write
-use digg digg and onlywire to quickly syndicate your post after it's published.
-take the keyword from your blog post and create an article with it and submit it to Ezine Articles.
-syndicate this article in the top article directories(go articles, knool, amazine, squidoo, hubpages etc) and in the resource box add 2 links:your original blog post link and a capture page. It's very important to get as many backlinks as possible with this keyword. Thus you get on page one of Google very fast.
    -use tribes
-play with forums:I recommend Warrior and Better Networker.Add a link in the signature to your blog post
-syndicate your post in Facebook Groups,Linked In Groups,Twitter etc
-repeat this process for each piece of content you create. It really works..I got a lot of traffic with these strategies and the Alexa Ranking is dropping like crazy.

Also, blog comments are great for backlinks.Leave a nice comment and a link to a specific post(not your blog url..it's more targeted this way).

There are more things to say here but these work very well

Guest Blogging works well for backlinks and if you write well you will also get direct traffic from the posts. Shoot for blogs in your niche. Personally when I write for guest posts I write for people and pretty much ignore the ideas about SEO writing people use in articles. It is more important to write articles that are interesting to people in your niche. When the comment you can go back and reply and get even more links.

The links will be in your author profile and its important to vary your anchor text.

If you want to get going on Guest Blogging right away without a lot of hassle then go to My Blog Guest forum Guest blogging: Looking for guest bloggers or guest post? Join MyBlogGuest! There are lots of people there with blogs looking for guests and you can get 100% original content for your blog too. I use this a lot, it works very well.

For keyword research I recommend Market Samurai. With an adwords acct it will pull up to 800 keywords. There are still low competition keywords in even very competitive niches.

Getting SERP rankings is directly related to how you promote your site
To promote your site, build backlinks and talk about it at places where it matters
Follow simple strategy, no rocket science here and you should be on your way to making some money.
On page and off page, both are important, search about them and read and implement the strategies meticulously.

    1. Join forums, forums are a great way to achieve links to your website.
    2. Submit to search engine directories.
    3. Creating an ezine will probably be the most beneficial step you can take to increasing your web presence.
