What Is Your Opinion Of the Sandbox?

I know this is a very controversial topic and some people say that there is no such thing as sandbox and your site dissapears due to google dance or other penalties.

Lets think about this for a moment, why does the site drops for all keywords below page 100 and does not rank for any keywords at all, the site is not banned and stops getting any traffic from google...

Some sites end up getting stuck like that for months and I had a site that was like that for a year and never came back.

They were not banned or deindexed as if you did a site: search you would see your domain in the results.

If you think this is not google sandbox then what is it?

This recently happened to 3 of my clickbank minisites that were making me a nice 2-3k a week.

All 3 dissapeared for almost 2 months and my income went down from those 3 sites to about $300 a week.

Sharp drop I know.

I acted and 2 of them are back and ranking very similar to what they were prior to sandbox/other punishment that happened to them.

The content on those sites is exactly the same as it was before, same plugins, pages, etc.

What is your opinion on this?

If its not google sandbox or panda penalty, then what is it and why did I manage to have the same content ranking well again?

I wouldn't call it the sandbox because people have been using that word for all kinds of things.

I will say there is a Google "phenomenon" where if you backlink a page ~100% with the same anchor text, that page will appear to be penalized. But such pages usually come back as the range of anchor text used becomes more varied.

The same thing happens when you get new backlinks indexed at a very fast rate. But my experience shows that this happens mostly on new domains. Which makes sense, as Google probably doesn't watch to miss out on serving a page on an established domain that has gone viral/popular.

Your Outlook on the issue makes sense and I completely agree with the fact that if you abuse anchor text and dont have enough of a mix you will get punished for sure...

And I Agree with the new domain factor. however, from some experiments and using 13 year old domains, they still seem to get punished just as well...

It has to be the cache age of the content and other little factors.

Google algo is not stupid thats for sure.
