Changing Keyword Frustration

Ok...I am getting frustrated and a little worried. I hope somebody here could help me because I am new to this whole SEO game.

So, about a month ago, I created a new website. It is the first website I ever made. It is an informational website with Adsense as its only source of revenue.

I chose a keyword which had 40,000 broad global views. I later learned that it only had about 250 exact searches on Google. My SERP ranking at this time was at 13. I was getting 5-10 visitors a day. On top of that, all sites listed on first page of google were very established pages with high page rank.

I figured that since my new website was not even a month old and it was in a very rarely searched keyword, I would change the keywords and rank for another one. I did the proper research this time and I found that the new keyword has ~3000 exact searches a month and the 1st page competitor websites were very weak.

I did not have to change much content. It was very easy to do.
At first, the keyword was : How to Become an EXAMPLE
I changed this to: EXAMPLE training

I was not able to find many old threads with anybody else who has done this and needed advice. I really need advice whether this was a good move. It's been about a week now since every change was set into place.
However, it is still not showing up in the google searches for that keyword. I know that they are indexing my site because new posts are being indexed daily and site title and description have all changed to replace with the new keyword.

Has anybody ever had experience with this? I read that it is not good to change keyword, but I really had nothing to lose. My website was brand new, my ranking was for a rarely searched keyword, and I did not have many backlinks set with old anchor texts.

I only had about 2 backlinks (articles) which i went back and edited to my new keyword for the anchor texts. Since then, I continuously submitted about 1 article a day with the new Example Training keyword achor text.

Could somebody give me some input on this situation? Or if everything's gonna be ok? Thank you very much~

    Hi,

Firstly, yes this was a good move.

You are right in saying that you have nothing to loose.

But here's where you might be confused. You can actually target both keywords with one page. Especially if they are closely related as you suggest.

Also, you made no mention to offpage seo, only onpage SEO.

Have you been doing any backlinking?

This is necessary to target higher competition kws.

    Cheers,
    Dave

    Hello Dave,

Thank you for the quick reply.
Your words actually let me breathe a little sigh of relief. I only had 2 backlinks with anchor texts, and I went back and edited with new keyword anchortexts. I'm now working on making a lot more high quality backlinks.

So Google has slowly taken me out of the ranking for my old keyword (since the keyword was gone from my description and title)
However, it's nowhere to be seen for the new one. Could it be that Google is confused or unhappy that all of a sudden the exact same content is worded a little bit differently to replace with my new keyword? If this is the case...I believe I am doomed from SEO.

Another thing to add and maybe get some advice on: For on-site SEO, what I did to replace the new keywords were to change the site title, descriptions, keywords and all the other settings for the All-In-One SEO Pack.
In my content, I have added my keyword in several times throughout the home page. All the other pages have the keyword (anchor-text link) linking back to home-page in the first paragraph.

And this is one that I am unsure about: when I add a link in my site to other pages of my site, I set it up by setting the link in the URL box and the keyword as the title for every single link. Is that correct?

Hello lovboa, I will second dadamson here and would like to say that you can use both keywords and build back links using these links as anchor text. As you add more content on your website( optimized for your keywords) you will see your pages ranking for these keywords ( after some good back linking effort) As you have mentioned that you are building back links to your website, article submission is not so much effective. Instead of wasting all your time on article writing and submission you can use some of your time to do social media optimization of your website to drive some traffic.

Thank you guys for the encouraging and helpful words.

I mentioned before but I'll say again that this is completely new to me and this website is my first attempt at making a website and getting into SEO.

I don't think I can leave my site link but it's pilotincanada dot com

Do you think you could take a quick look maybe tell me what I could fix? Nothing so detailed as I'm sure everyone has better things to do, but maybe something that catches your eye immediately as bad SEO? (im sure my site is filled with them).

    If possible. Thanks so much.

Dear you just don't have to be worried but just keep on building new backlinks like by doing directory submissions, social bookmarking, forum posting and blog commenting. That's what I am doing with my site and I got it on number one for mant keywords and also at first page of Google for most of my keywords. So just be relax and give some time to search engines to improve its ranks.

Don't worry about it. I've changed KWs before and what happened, was my site plummeted in the old niche but rose w/in the new niche.

You should be ok - especially since it is a new site.
