Niche Site with 1 backlink outranking authority sites

Chucky mentioned this site in his thread and I wanted to make a thread about the site he mentioned (flipvideoreviews.com) after doing some more research on it. It ranks #1 for the keyword "flip video reviews" and according to backlinkwatch.com, it has only 1 backlink (and it is nofollow!). It's an EMD and seems to have good on-page seo. I've seen many sites that have great on-page seo and tons of backlinks but they still don't outrank authority sites. Is there something about this flip video reviews site that's setting it apart?

    There are many ranking factors like keyword in domain, title, description, content and relevancy. Most of all, it is not competitive keyword to rank in Google.

    I have similar site except with even lesser competition but it's not #1 like this site is... what am I doing wrong?... Could domain age really make that much of a difference in rankings?

    This site is an example of laser targeted keyword and his on-page optimization is really good apart from looking to good neighbors... Also the domain age factor plays a major role...Correct me if I am wrong.

      My site is laser targeted to its keyword as well, and it's at #7. Can domain age really make that much of a difference?

        Domain Age is really not that important, but it does matters when you are competing for a very competitive keyword. The two most important parameters are PR and the number of backlinks to a website. These are sufficient to beat any website for any keyword that has less competition. Try it and you can see the results yourself.

    The backlinks could be www instead of without it. and that must be one strong backlink to give it #1. also the domain name helps it a bunch.
