Hello fellow Warriors.

I recently started a website that is devoted to free teaching resources. It is. Writing With Chalk-Free Lesson Plans, Rubrics, Tests, And Activities

There has been 20 pages of content on the website for about a month, and I have only gotten 1 ORGANIC SEARCH VIEW!

I took a look on Google and there are 110 pages of content indexed from my site
site:www.writingwithchalk.com - Google Search

HOWEVER, MOST OF THE INDEXED PAGES ARE MY WORDPRESS "PAGES" THAT MERELY LIST POSTS.

There are about 15 actual posts that are indexed....am I getting penalized for dupe content bc of the 80+ wordpress "pages" that are indexed? Should I add the robot plugin that disallows the wordpress "pages" from being indexed?

I have 2 other niche sites that have about 10 decently written posts and they get a small amount of search engine traffic (about 15 visits/day)...I know that it is summer, but it is nearing the end and teacher's have begun searching for lesson plans, tests, and rubrics (I know this because I am a teacher lol).

I have yet to send any backlinks to the website because I am literally getting NO ORGANIC TRAFFIC from the search engines. Should I begin to backlink and continue adding content? Should I add the robot tag to the wordpress "pages"?

Please help, I want this site to be successful and helpful to other teachers! Thanks in advance.....from a warrior in need.
Michael

how high up are you in the search engines? you won't get much organic traffic from search engines if you are on say page 9 or 10.

You haven't mentioned anything about keywords or on-page seo. Backlinking helps your site go up in search engines

Tell me some of the keywords you are trying to rank for. You won't get organic traffic unless you are on first or second page of the SERPs.

It is not a niche site that is ranking for specific keywords; however, I am trying to rank for keywords such as "free lesson plans" and "free teacher resources" that both have over 4k exact searches per month.

I completely understand and agree with what you are saying, I doubt that I am ranking really high in the SERPs for keywords because I have not targeted any keywords. I have a ton of teaching resources that I have accumulated through courses, and planning...I am basically going to post all of those to the site and continually post more (as I create them) until it becomes a dominant authority site in which teachers can go to in order to get and use some free resources.

I just thought that I would be getting quite a few long tail hits (those search strings with 7 or 8 words) due to the amount of posts that I have

Just putting content out there won't do anything, unless you're in a really low-competition niche. At least build a few backlinks to it. If it was just as easy as writing some content and letting it sit there, we'd all be rich by now

    1. It is good that your website and pages are indexed.

    2. Yes, you probably need to build some backlinks to your website. Any little bit should help all of your internal pages start to rank.

    3. Make sure your analytics software is working properly...ie have a friend visit the website and make sure they are recorded.

Ah! I wish things were so easy! That one organic visit was probably just luck.

You will need to do some backlinking in order to rank. You need to know the exact keywords you want to rank for, do some on-page seo and then start backlinking.

Life's not always so easy, but don't give up.

      Good Luck

        Michael,

The first thing that slapped me in the face was that you misspelled Writing on your homepage.

Looking at your site title and the content (which needs to contain more words) I am led to believe that you are trying to rank for "writing with chalk" which only gets 2,900 searches a month.

You mentioned you were trying to rank for "free lesson plans" which gets a lot more searches but when I ran a competition analysis I found that most of the top 10 sites had high PR and 1,000's of backlinks, so you have your work cut out for you.

Here are a couple of quick tips to help you rank for "free lesson plans"

First change your site title and start it with "free lesson plans"

Second be sure the first and last sentences contain "free lesson plans"

Third try to get a keyword density of around 2-3% for your phrase "free lesson plans"

Make sure that you use <h1> and <h2> for your phrase, also bold, italics, and underline the phrase. Link out to an authority site using your phrase.

Of course you're going to need backlinks as well if you want to get and keep a high ranking.

There are many good plugins that will help you optimize content for better onpage seo. I highly suggest Easy WP Seo.

lol I don't think many people read the post properly.....i know that I am not going to receive organic traffic from the SPECIFIC KEYWORD if my site is not in the top 10, but I was wondering why i wasn't receiving organic traffic from the 5-6 WORD KEYWORD PHRASES that I always receive regardless of where I am ranked for the specific keyword.

In addition, I am trying to build an authority site that will rank with those sites....even if i don't outrank them, I will still receive quite a bit of traffic from super long tails bc of the hundreds of lesson plans that I will have posted.

      and

@mikebartus. I didnt realize that I had mispelled it lol...in addition, I know all about SEO but I am not striving for on page SEO......basically, I have a ton of lesson plans that I had previously done, I simply want to post them and create some backlinks....but are you talking about changing the keyword density of the term "free lesson plans" on my home page?

Well how high are you ranked for the 5-6 word keyword phrases? and what are these keywords? If the niche is as competitive as it sounds, there's probably plenty of websites offering the same content ranking for the same "5-6 word keyword phrases"

        Am I understanding you properly?

There are literally trillions of web pages out there, and either:
        1. No one actually searches for those 5-6 keyword phrases about school lesson plans in the middle of summer vacation.
        2. The Google algorithm has decided that your site doesn't deserve to rank in the top few places for those longer phrases and thus people never bother with your site. Makes total sense if you have no backlinks.
I can't help you with #1, but for #2 check out the FAQ I put together about why your site isn't ranking, might help you understand: http://www.warriorforum.com/adsense-...deindexed.html

I guess it was just a matter of time, the organic search engine visits started trickling in a few days after posting this, and now they are coming in at a pretty steady rate of at least 10/day....absolutely no backlinking and only about 30 pages of content

I do plan on backlinking the site for some targeted keywords; however, I have another 26 pages of content (activities and lesson plans) that I wrote for a course that I just finished that I plan on posting for other teachers to use.

Thanks for all of the help!
    MC
