A complete flash website is a terrible idea when it comes to SEO. The only content you can work with is meta data. Although link building and social media signals have a great importance, the drawbacks of having a flash website are huge.
    After all "Content is King"!
Anyway, why would you go for a flash website when you have so many JavaScript libraries available?

I can't even imagine a site that is "all" flash.

Text in flash may be read, but what's the point?

Since some of your visitors will not have flash, it's not a good
    starting point.

There has got to be some reason for wanting complete flash.
You could get by with just the title and domain, I suppose,
but don't expect to get much love from longer tail keywords.

Even facebook has some plain text in there.

Google has been working with adobe to be able to read flash...Although it can do partial reading, there are still ways to go...I would advice against it, not only from an SEO point but also from a management point of view. Do you have the time to update the text in flash files?

I'm also confused about this. Can someone check my link signature and tell me if my handled website is bad to SEO?

Don't do a website in flash. Ever. There are workarounds but none of them are really suitable for SEO purposes, you can do similar things with HTML5 and/or JQuery now though. Just make sure to use separate pages for the keywords targeted and heavy on page SEO.

Tell him to forget it about it. I've seen one or two wortwhile Flash designs in my WHOLE internet life.

From an SEO perspective Flash is a complete waste of time, especially if its the WHOLE site that is flash.

In the day and age where not many phones support Flash technology you'd be absolutely crazy to design a purely flash driven website.

Agreed it's not a wise move for 100% flash.

Still a mobile site + the flash site is possible, it's just going to take a heck of a lot of work.

A complete flash site isn't a good idea for the traffic, you better have a backup plan for non-flash traffic + seo.

You can seo flash If your really good at seo, it's more of an seo specialty that most folks don't ever talk about because they don't know how to do flash + seo & make it work.

The basics of flash + seo is you have to pull data/content from a remote source like an .xml file.

I have Google pulling images from my site via flash + xml & showing my raster images as video thumbnails (not image thumbnails) in Google text search (they don't have a clue what's going on, lol).

To answer your OP question, flash blows seo wise, out of the box.

Still it can be done & you'll have a steep learning curve, or pay a lot more $$ to seo the flash pages.

Flash sites are not seo friendly because of the content and pictures are not in separate files. While content in flash sites is not readable by search engine crawlers.

    Thanks

Though Flash sites are not SEO friendly, but if you are having a website for videographer or photographer, you need to have flashes.. and I have seen many of the fully loaded flash websites which are ranking high. Idea is to optimize them.. Use ROR sitemap, provide effective user experience, you can make the home page with flash, but do provide some text in inner pages..

Rubbish. jQuery and HTML5 will handle any portfolio, be easily indexed by google, and furthermore will be visible to anyone browsing on iPad or iPhone, which Flash won't.

Also, what, is it 2003 again? I remember building an all-flash site back then. It took FOREVER to make updates because every single damn .swf file had to be edited. It was a nightmare.

Flash site is only a wasting of time because Google only read content and links of your website. Google not read pics or flash of your website. it is not a user and SEO friendly website.

Flash is Trash! The problem with flash sites is that Google spiders have no idea what to look for since there is no text in it. The second problem with flash sites is that it will not work if the person browsing it doesn't have flash player installed.

Flash is a bad idea for SEO and for browsing in general. Maybe your friend should switch to Ajax if he/she wants flashy animations.

It's a bad idea to use a flash based website if you are focusing on SEO. Some of them are allowing you to do a minor tweak and adjustment of SEO such as Title, Meta Description and Meta Keywords only. But it is not enough. Comparing with a normal non flash based site, it is much easier to see results in those non flash based sites.

Not the best idea to have your site tons of flash if you want to be se-optimized.

Although Google has been working hard to read images and flash but text is still the best readable source for Google.
